We need a presenter for the 23rd this month.

If you have learned anything new recently step up and give a quick
presentation on it -- chances are someone else will benefit from your
experience. If you want to learn something new you still have three
weeks to figure it out and put a presentation together.

If there's a topic you would like to see then reply with a suggestion
-- you just might inspire someone who already knows it.

I think we can do a 'git' discussion if you like. I can run point on
it and discuss some of the coolness that is git. I'll talk about the
workflow I've been using (http://nvie.com/archives/323) to manage our
code base as well as comparisons of svn/cvs to git.

Cheers,

Clint

Why limit to git? Why not DVCSs in general? Bazaar and Mercurial are
just as cool.

And then of course there are the websites that go along with the
DVCSs: GitHub, Launchpad, BitBucket.

Well, that is a great thought and it's definitely something that could
be done over a few months time. Maybe have an intro to a different
DCMS presented each month as a lightning talk (10 minutes at the start
of the meeting).

From my perspective, there is plenty to discuss regarding Git alone.
I like other DCMSs, but I'm not as experienced with them. My plan is
to spend the whole hour talking more about methodology and how to use
Git in those methodologies. it's less about the system, and more
about smart ways to use the software. I think it's a very practical
discussion and can easily port the concepts we will discuss to any
other DCMS.

Cheers,

Clint

I would love to have a presentation on telephony equipment and Asterisk.

Anything specific? I freakin' love rsync. I think that would make a
good half-meeting topic.

I talked about rsync last year in the backups presentation -- or, a
specific use-case for rsync, anyway. The slides [1] are missing a lot
of what was discussed.

Does the OALUG still have ties with Weber State?  The  reason that I asked about tie in to Weber is that I know the Computer Science degree had a Network Security Track and I would like to spark some interest in the field of Network Security.  As a matter of fact my employer is looking for a security professional and we also have internships during the summer.

Would there be any interest in security related topics or programs like Snort, Argus, rkhunter, Metasploit or others?

John

Very much so. Quite possibly an *insatiable* interest in security
topics. :)

No current direct ties that I am aware of.

The next time you have any open internships, please announce them on
this list! I know of at least a few members who are still students.
