Hi Anna, Currently on ebay 1052 listings for phonecards, look under collectibles/trading cards, as a collector (biased ) I believe they are both collectable and interesting. There are some very rare (according to numbers made) cards from all over the world including NZ which will be of interest in the future to others who come to the hobby of Phonecard collecting.

Tony, I found one set of NZ phone cards on ebay, and I don't think they had that much value in terms of artistic merit or kiwiana collectability. I think there's a conspiracy to hoard the good ones away.

Pah people who collect them purely as an investment are plain stupid. I had to laugh when Telecom changed to the newer type of cards. As if the fact that they could no longer be used as a phone card changed their collectibility or rarity.
I know people who collect pens, and they dont seem to care if there is ink in them or they still can write.
Anyway, back to your question, you could start collecting old cellphones? -- Shane 'Its a bit nutty...' - AP

Whoever invented collectable phonecards is a marketing genius with the ethics of a snake. If you want something pretty and collectable, try stamps ;)

The oOnly problem is that stamps don't last that long and are ridiculously cheap to buy. You also need a magnifying glass to appreciate their artistic value. Anyway, I wouldn't call stamps Kiwiana, every country has stamps. Coins and phonecards, that's my cup of tea. :-)
Funnily enuff I've just (mostly) catalogued my collection which I'm wanting to sell off as I've been too busy to collect things anymore.
If anyone's wanting to have a look at what I've got, check out http://ariwa.wibble.net/phonecards . I have a few rare-ish ones there and all in all I'm willing to part with most of my set for below current valuation. :-)

Sorry to have to tell you this but you have no hope whatsoever of selling your collection of phonecards. No-one, but no-one anywhere in the world, is interested in buying. I have 100s for sale but cannot raise the slightest interest. WRD
