A friend and I were out for a walk this afternoon, enjoying the sights (as
one does of course). When we got to Frank Kitts Park, we sat on one of the
large blocks of wood beside the new bridge, watching the kayakers (and the
one who kept falling in) and the paddle boats.

However, someone, probably a child, had drawn a rainbow on this seat, using
pastel crayons. My friend now sports a rather faded and smudged rainbow on
the seat of his oatmeal coloured longs.

Does anyone have any idea about getting it out, or is it a dry cleaner job?

try placing a piece of absorbent paper eg blotter on top and ironing
it. This is good for wax stains, I'm not sure about pastel. There is
a range of products called "Stain Devils" I think, that are specific
stain-removers.

Thanks Rosie. I also found the Crayola site which has a whole link devoted
to stain removal, and includes, among the list of other drawing instruments,
oil based pastels. It's in three steps- pick the cause of your stain, pick
what the stain is on, then what to do to get rid of it, *and* you can e-mail
the page to the victim :-)
