Recently xtra dropped their newsgroup server, leaving their subscribers
to access newsgroups via Google groups, other newsgroup services such as
Giganews, or change provider with one that still has a news server.

Telstraclear and Paradise customers should be well aware of the problem
of the news server not updating towards the end of each month, due to
the bandwidth allocation being used up early. I have seen nothing to
suggest that Telstraclear/Paradise are prepared to fix this problem,
which leads me to believe that they don't care, possibly in the belief
that only a small percentage of their customers access newsgroups
through the Paradise news servger.

They may well be right, but I would like to try and get more bandwidth
allocated, but more important to retain the news server. If they drop
the news server, I would be forced to change provider to regain access
through a normal news server, as opposed to Google groups. I really
don't want to do this, as I like my cable connection and I don't want to
join in all the not-fun people are experiencing with adsl.

I have created 2 polls. One asking how often you access newsgroups
through the Paradise news server, and the other asking if you would
change provider if they dropped the news server.

I hope every Paradise and Telstraclear customer reading this takes part,
as the more numbers the better.

The polls close on 31 December and I will forward the results to
Telstraclear by both email and snail mail and I will also post the
results here.

I am posting this to nz.general, nz.comp and all the nz.reg groups.

Thank you
