Are you thinking of Teeds? I think it was next to the BNZ which is on the
corner of Devon and Brougham streets.

So, would that be where the magazine shop is now? There was a Toyworld there
in the 1980's (i.e. approx 20 years ago).
I remember Hughson's Hardware being on the corner of Dawson St and St Auburn
streets which is several blocks away.
Are you in New Plymouth? The library used to have all the old phone books in
the Taranaki section.
