I guess these people will wait until some attacks them and then blame
everyone else. If these guys had been around in the 1930s we would
all be speaking German or Japanese now..

The name of the group says it all.

Hussein is a broken down dictator with no significant military capability at
all after 12 years of UN sanctions.

He isn't allowed to fly in many parts of his country. He can't project force
into the autnonmous areas that have already in effect broken away.

The point - which you have missed, it seems - is that lobbing 800 cruise
missiles at Baghdad is not the ONLY optoin available.

The Franco-German proposal makes that staringly obvious IF one is prepared
to thinks ways of disarming Iraq that don't involve violent military
conquest and widespread devastation.

The Bush Administration wants the oil....and is deaf to every other option
that would ensure peace, but keep their mits off the oil.

If we let Bush get away with it, you Hitler analogy will be more appropriate
than you realise......and the baddie won't be Hussein.

It will be the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld 3-headed imperial war beast.

800 cruise missiles, plus whatever else, headed for Baghdad?

They have to destroy it to 'liberate' it?

Bush & Rumsfeld haven't learned a thing from Vietnam.

Their lies bother me most. Powell's 'chemical factory' is an empty set of
buildings in a part of Iraq that Hussein doesn't even control.

So you think that they'd prefer to be dead - killed by a foreign regime
then.

So, in your view, the best way to liberate Yanks is to kill them too.

Peculiar.

Let me explain the difference.

Bush will liberate Iraq with the aim of causing as few civilian
casualities as reasonably possible.

Saddam, if in the same position, wouldn't care about how about civilians
he killed.

Just as we liberated Vietnam, along with our American allies. The trouble
was, on the whole they didn't want us to liberate them. Or just like
liberating Afghanistan seems to have encouraged more fighting. Perhaps they
didn't want to be liberated, either. Or like the Chileans, who had the
temerity to elect a government that the US felt was acting against its
interests.

Nevertheless, it seems only probable that "liberating" Iraq will kill more
Iraqis than not liberating it. At least it will get rid of the current
sanctions, and of course will give America access to a lot of oil, just as
it's own begins to run out. What do a few Iraqis matter compared to that? If
there are any left, they will be able to get jobs pumping their oil out of
the ground for American oil companies.

And a good war, on someone else's soil, and against a country that can't put
up too much resistance, will do wonders for the American economy, and for
Bush's chances of re-election. So to hell with the UN, and to hell with
everyone else. St George is rushing to battle, and will not be denied. Some
of the more brainless among us even seem to have convinced themselves that
he has right on his side. Who do you think he should march against next?
Perhaps New Zealand! After all, we won't allow his ships to come here, so we
should be punished too.
