I have now filled out my census forms on line.

It is such an easy progress but it would obviously be beyond the
mental ability of Dinosaur Libertarians to accomplish.

I'm tempted to say "up to date", Geo! People these days are used to
filling in forms online, so I don't think that most people would miss
the paper forms. In any case the Govt won't stop doing the forms while
they are getting a significant number back.

Cheers,

No, Patrick, I'm taking heed of a sensible directive - a total fire ban in Wairarapa. Once the ban has been lifted and temperatures cool I will put the census form to good use by lighting the kindling in my log burner with it.

Who here does not like being labelled an "NZ European" and instead chose
"Other" and wrote "New Zealander"?

I've always done that.

Where was "Jedi" in the list of religions?

But, as always, I chose "none".

Not me. I gave up on that several censeless ago.
Stats NZ change all such responses to NZ European. You must conform to
their preconceived view of what you are. Interestingly you can be of
Samoan, Tongan
Maori........( insert your pinprick island on the map)......... as a
separate "ethnic" identity
rather than Polynesian which is the realistic ethnic designation for all
of these.

I supply a new answer to my own ethnic origins, which I'm not going to
reveal here.
For the previous two censeless I've been contacted to check my response.
Waiting
to see if that happens again. ;-)

Question 9 asks which country you were born in. One of the options is New
Zealand.
Question 11 asks which ethnic group you belong to.
It is not difficult.

Obviously with the information from questions 9 and 10, population trends
based on ethnic groups can be isolated for NZ born and immigrants. We know
they all come from Polynesia. They want to know from where in Polynesia they
are mainly coming from. They also want to know what the ethnic distribution
over all Nu Zillen.

Question 9 asks which country you were born in. One of the options is New
Zealand.
Question 11 asks which ethnic group you belong to.

Most of Nu Zillen's population would be Pacific Islanders so it would be a
stupid thing to spend millions of dollars asking people if they were or not.
Why not ask all these Pacific Islanders to be more specific?
It is not difficult.

I agree that a census ia a waste of money and an infringement on our
freedoms.

Frankly my ethnicity is none of the governments business. Neither is how
much I earn or how many kids I have.

Is "NZ European" intended to include British and Australians who hold
British or Australian passports?

Since there are more British and Dutch here than some named groups of
polynesians why are they not referred to in the census form?

What a ludicrous response!
Such a reply has nothing to do with your original inane question under the
Subject: Census Day, asking if you were a Pacific Islander. Whether you are
a NZ Pacific Islander or not was covered in question 9. It is not difficult.

Or is it. Ethinicnersity is fast becoming a blurred line.

From dictionary.com

Quote

ethnic
 adjective
1.
pertaining to or characteristic of a people, especially a group (ethnic
group) sharing a common and distinctive culture, religion, language, or the
like.
2.
referring to the origin, classification, characteristics, etc., of such
groups.
3.
being a member of an ethnic group, especially of a group that is a minority
within a larger society: ethnic Chinese in San Francisco.
4.
of, pertaining to, or characteristic of members of such a group.
5.
belonging to or deriving from the cultural, racial, religious, or linguistic
traditions of a people or country: ethnic dances.

Unquote.

Number 3 leads to some interesting ideas if you think about it. Are boy
racers for example a ethinic group, are politicans?

What idiotic question? I asked "who here does not like being labelled an 'NZ
Eurpoean' and instead chose 'Other' and wrote 'New Zealander'". How is that
an idiotic question?

Just be glad you can fill in a form, and don't have to go back to your

Look what happened when Caesar wanted a census so "all the world should be
taxed" but didn't arrange for sufficient accommodation for the travellers.

And with the motorway chaos the other day, perhaps donkey travel there would
be a better idea!

Perhaps that should be included on the census forms. It would be interesting
to know how many are still here.
And a question for the Dutch immigrants too.
