Bush Pre-empts Oprah

two shows about the impending conflict in Iraq.
The views being presented were both American and international (the CNN
part). It proved to be one of the few opportunities the ordinary European
has had to speak directly to ordinary Americans about why Europe is so
hostile to the idea of war in Iraq. It would be fair to say that it would
have been the first time the mainly female (63%) Oprah-viewing audience has
been exposed to these 'other' views.
After the first 30 minutes of the 1 hour program, President George Bush
appeared on the screen with an urgent message: War with Iraq? Washing ton
bombed?
No....he gave a speech about why War in Iraq was necessary. The Oprah show
continued after his speech, though the viewing audience had missed 15
minutes of it.
To put it in context, Bush credits his appearance on Oprah in 2000 with
turning his election campaign around. The program has considerable
influence among the people who watch it.
If they are allowed to see it..........

Kiwis.

Oh please. Old news ... happening for a long time ... not going to be
involved. Bloody political or usa related (oprah ?!) ... only vaguely nz
related.

It is in my eyes. Others seem to agrre, judging by the material they are
posting and responding to.
You and I disagree. I think war and peace, life and death are of general
concern as well as having a political dimension. You may not accept
that....and I'm sorry if you don't agree.

That works both ways ... everything has a political dimension without doubt
.. but to me, anything that relates directly to politicians (ie fred is a
bastard, party y has no idea) belongs in the politics group ... otherwise we
have one big group (or in practice, a bunch of small groups with the same crap
on :) ) . Sigh.

Well...these are interesting times...and if you go to nz.politics, you get
Redbaiter and the rest of the pin-head clan.
So you may be seeing more political content here simply becasue there are
more rational, reasonable, intellectually honest people here than the vil
trolls who inhabit nz.p.

I'd go for a moderated newsgroup.
Sort of like a mail list - with a filter.
Abusive posts don't get forwarded.....and few threads would be allowed to go
beyond the third cycle...allowing each contributor to make their best
arguments and have perhaps two rebuttals.
