It's been very interesting watching Cadbury, working hard to repair the
damage they have done to their brand. Replaying the popular ads, free
giveaways of the current recipe, which is the old recipe...

Luckily, perhaps, they have a large marketing budget, but I think the
problem they have created for themselves will take some time to repair.

For what it's worth, and I wish to point out I'm not a big chocolate
fancier, the dairy milk tastes.. wrong.. to me now, maybe mind over
matter, maybe I have become used to the different brand(s) I have moved
to, maybe I never really liked dairy milk, whatever the reason, I for
one won't be spending any money with them, for a while yet anyway.

No its not, cocoa has still dropped in the new small blocks without palm
oil. Its one step above fundrasing crap and no brand service station
muck now. Lindt forever IMO.

Their other stuff is gone to crap as well

Its been a bad 18 months for nz candy, killed off some nz faves, the
choc fuckup and then the current problem with eclairs and minites going
offshore.

IMO dairymilk has always been bad. No cocoa taste, virtually a milk
chocolate. And that tastes about as nice as the crust that accumulates
around the top of a milk bottle to me.

So why don't Cadbury brand make such nice chocolate?

I used to like it, but, now, I'd agree with Kerry, it's too sweet.

Doesn't it depend on what one wants to pay?

Cadburys is a comparatively cheap brand, and if you just want a large bar
for your money it will do nicely.
Look at it as the "Warehouse" of the chocolate world.

Would you rather eat the fancy dishes they produce on Masterchef, or a huge
plate of good fish and chips?
There is a lot to be said for an unsophisticated palate.

Ah, thought so. The first time I came across I looked at the fancy
cardboard box and noted - surprise surprise - that they had the same
address in Dunedin as Cadbury.

At the time it looked like an attempt to capture a slice of the
imported chocolates market with something that looked flash while
taking the Cadbury brand downmarket.

Give me a packet of dark-roasted coffee beans coated in high-cocoa
dark chocolate. . . provided someone else is paying.

I noticed when I first came here in the fifties that Dairy Milk didn't taste
as good as the version made in UK.
I thought perhaps it might be designed for a warmer climate, higher melting
point or something.

If it contains cocoa butter it's chocolate, even if it's white.
It tastes vile though.

To be called Chocolate it must contain cocoa solids this can be powder or
butter or both.

Crudburys is now a mere whisper of cocoa solids away from having to
label their product "Choc" like the ultra cheap sweet brown blocks - and
also "chocolate" buttons sold for baking. Beware, they make good baking
taste like it came from the El Cheepo Cafe, weak coffee and stewed tea
our speciality.

Ok just watched the "What's really in our food" one on chocolate
According to them

Chocolate must contain at least 20% cocoa solids (can be cocoa powder or
butter or both) also MUST NOT contain MORE than 5% oils other than cocoa
butter or dairy fat. so 2% no but white chocolate can be called chocolate
because it has at least 20% cocoa butter in it.
