I recieved a bunch of blank xmas postcards from this "mouth and foot" group
in the post the other day. This was totally unsolicited and I don't even
know how they got my name and address.

Now they want me to return the postcards , or send them a cheque to pay for
them. I don't see why I should do anything since I didn't want them in the
first place.

I think this is scumbag tactics and I think it could be a scam. Anyone heard
of these dickheads?

Yeah, they've tried it on me, twice. IIRC I sent them a note saying
they could pick the cards up any time they liked. After a few months
I threw the cards out.

They have been around for years. I think that they are UK based.

Just put on it return to sender and not wanted.
I've put more than just that on them at times. Had them for a few years
some years back, all going well I won't be getting them back.

I never heard of them before. I'd love to know how they got my address.

This has been happening for ages. Just cross out your address and dump
them back in the post.

NZ Post must have the greatest reason to object to all the wastfull cartage.

Gotta wonder though if they make much at all... with the postage and
printing and non-returned items. Any actual return to the artists must
be a tiny fraction of the total expenses.

You may ignore them. Or you may invite them to pick them up (They
never will) After some time, (IIRC 3 months) they are yours to do
whatever you like with. I used to use them a couple of Xmas' later.

k, interesting. Had they been collecting in a mall or something I would have
given them something.

But this postal collection methods are bordering on dishonesty in my
opinion.

Actually, I've noticed in the last year that unsolicited calls from
charities have increased a lot. Recently i got a call from a charity called
"horse riding for the disabled" .

Jeez, just about every activity that a disabled person does could become a
charity.

Some card outfit must be printing them out with the handicapped people
getting fuck all out of it. The paintings were probably done years ago.

Afaik they are genuine.
This is one way these people can make a living.

I supposted them by buying cards some years ago.

I got a pack of cards this year. I sent them back 'Return To Sender".
No reason at all to be angry and abusive.

I only send 3 cards pa and that was my motive for sending them back.

I still think it is a bullshit way to raise money. I wonder how much
actually ends up in these peoples hands (or feet).

I just write on the envelope "Unsolicited Junk Mail" and post them back.

Horse riding for the disabled is a well-known charity that does a lot of
good. The disabled kids and their carers find it of great benefit.

I disagree too with charities phoning people. What has happened to the good
old "flag days" of my youth?
Many charities ask too much, especially those leaving envelopes in the
mailbox. Often $20 seems to be the minimum they expect. I always try to find
something for anyone calling at the door, after all every little helps, but
sending a large cheque is beyond the means of many people, especially as
there seems to be something every week or so.

I've been away from the country for a few years. Before I left, the usual
charities were the biggies such as IHC/ Blind foundation etc... There seem
to be so many more now, and they call you, and this postal method is new to
me.

Todays new age charities use high pressure sales techniques to make you
give. and, as you say, the minimum they want is 20 bucks. I feel charity
is losing it's spirit of intent. It is like the art gallery where you are
basically forced to give a donation for 'free' entry.

There is a piece in Corinthians, often recited at weddings, about "charity"
in the King James Bible.

Modern translations call it "Love".

Maybe the best translation of all would be Aroha.

That's about it. The original Greek was "caritas", not to be
confused with the naughty stuff, "eros" (I think).

Eros and Agape. Not to be confused with the English word "agape". Though
there are interesting possibilities........

If they were unsolicited you are under no obligation to either buy or
return them.

Yep, same thing happened to me many years ago now. I binned the cards
(had no use for them) and haven't heard from the organisation since.

Phone book or electoral records.

Or they bought a list of addresses from another outfit.

We receive them every year. Never asked for them. If they want them
back they can come and get them.
