I recently re-subscribed to nz.gen after a three-year hiatus as I found
myself posting OT to other NZ groups and wanted a group where I could post
about /general/ things relevant to life in NZ.

However, after skimming over the most recent thousand or so posts here I see
that this group still isn't general discussion. It's 95% politics - even
threads that don't start as politics become political after on average three
posts.

The 5% that isn't politics is bored people attacking each other. (That's not
to say that doesn't also occur in the threads that are political - it does,
more often than not.)

So it looks like I'll go back to the other nz.xxx groups and, if needed post
OT there. nz.general is nz.politics by another name (combined with
nz.keyboard.warrior). A shame we can't have a proper, civil general
discussion group. :-/

Use a decent newsreader that supports a killfile, and the group isn't so
bad. I only see a few messages a day :)

Shit, just as I have been thinking in recent times.

My question is, WTF do the posters of nz.politics post here?

Still this ng was alive long before they arrived. It will be long after they
have left.

Rant on in the meanwhile pull throughs. I shall reamain lurking.

How about something else apart nz.politics? Even why Auckland thinks it is
NZ would be a good start.

The Budget, from how it affects the average Kiwi person etc.

You must be a boring old fart at a party.
No sex, religion and politics.
nz.general is a free for all, and so it should be.
This is no place for lurkers.
If you want to say something . Say it
Google groups (Usenet ) have moved on from separate groups for

Actually I vaguely remember being very popular at parties but, as I've been
on an invalid's benefit for over a decade it's been..... Yeah, almost as
long since I went to a party. W&I don't pay for a social life and my family
all moved to Aus in the 90s.

Not if there are other nz.xxx groups covering those subjects.

I intended merely to lurk a wee while - but the atmosphere here is much to
hostile to stick around.

Ok, thanks! Ummm..... You're a pretentious prat. There ya go.

> Google groups (Usenet ) have moved on from separate groups for

LOL, that explains it! Usenet in brackets, Google goons first. The only
reason usenet may appear to have consolidated is due to lazy pricks not
finding the right group. BTW I'm active in several other usenet groups -
it's only this one that's almost entirely OT. (A 'general' group that's
filled with posts that already have a sub-group can indeed have OT posts.)

Thanks victor, I'll have a look. My preference is for usenet, I've been
using it for nearly two decades. This isn't the first time I've been here, I
'left' a few years back for the same reasons I'm not sticking around this
time. I hoped it'd changed. LOL.

Hi Dave. I have a killfile, one that's been migrated from one install to
another for a decade. (It has at least 40 Woger aliases.)

However, although I see a few posts by people I 'know' and respect from
other newsgroups [ ;) ] there hasn't been a single thread here in the
last... 5 days that I'm interested in. The Q&D conclusion is that it's not
worth 'training' the killfile further.

Cheers,

That was my hope - and why I've re-visited now. Alas, not only are they

Try listing a range of subjects that are politics free?
It would be a very limited range.
Morrissey writing on the height of the grass at Eden park in 1981
comes to mind.
Then you can't talk about Minto and the great unwashed trying to get
into the park as that
would be political.
Besides what's the big deal about having a discussion politics free.
It would make the group rather boring.

Don't go. Start interesting threads yourself. You don't have to read the
political ones.
I've been here for some years, and miss all the ladies who used to post
here.
I wonder what has happened to them all.
Yes, it isn't the group it used to be. But I think we can get it back.

(I blocked the local nuisance recently, I don't know whether you call that a
killfile.
But he had dozens of posts cluttering up many groups and very few made any
sense.)
