Subject: Long term moves back to NZ. Anyone up for a chat about the Auckland web scene this week?
Hi all

I've lurked for a while, but not posted. I signed up last time I was
considering a move back to NZ but had a job offer that persuaded me to
stay in the UK. But now with a little family on the go and the UK
wearing me down I'm thinking about it all over again. So while I'm on
holiday, I'm interested in meeting up with some people for a chat
about what is going on in the web here in NZ. Partly to find out more
about what sort of job opportunities there are, but more generally
about what the web industry is like and what it's like working in it
here. Apart from a few leads I've got from this list I know absolutely
nothing about what is going on now in NZ.

Luckily enough, right now I'm not in the UK, I'm sunning myself here
in NZ on holiday. But my great plans of organising all of this sort of
meet up before hand never happened (too much work), so here I am
trying to make a quick contact at the last minute. I know there are
some Auckland web and PHP meetups in Feb, but nothing in this quiet
period in Jan (I got some leads on that from a guy named Elliot
Kember, who I had down to speak at a conference I ran).

So if there is anyone who is up for a coffee sometime this week that
would be great. I've just noticed the exchange rate improving so I'm
happy to shout a few coffees in exchange for some chat.

A little about me... I've got about a decade of experience as a web
project/product manager, but now teach and try to do research as an
academic in Bristol. I worked in a couple of agencies in London as
well as at the BBC. I've done some senior managementy stuff, been a
consultant, done large scale web app product development and
management. Now I'm teaching web design/development at the University
of West England and trying to find time to do some research into
ubicomp and gaming. All the sorts of things that makes it difficult to
walk off a plane here and find the right job.

all the best

Dan

You don't say whether you want to get back to the development side, or
pursue the academic direction.  If you are looking more towards the
latter, then based on your research interests you might want to
investigate Canterbury Uni which has an HCI/Multimedia group.
