Karl Ludvigsen Speaking

at Research Center April 13

Renowned automotive industry insider and author/historian Karl Ludvigsen will speak about "A Lifetime on Wheels" at the Center on Saturday, April 13.

The talk, an illustrated presentation based on his experiences in the world of cars and racing over the years, is free and open to all. It is part of our Center Conversations series.

For complete details, see the story on our website by clicking here.

To learn a bit more about our honored guest, read Pete Vack's story appearing at VeloceToday.com on May 13, 2008.

Add a Center Visit to Your

WGI Opening Weekend Plans

Watkins Glen International is hosting its annual Opening Weekend festivities on April 20-21, and the Center has special plans for the weekend, too.

Fans are invited to drive their personal vehicle on the famed WGI road course for $25, with proceeds benefiting The Food Bank of the Southern Tier during Opening Weekend.

Tickets for Opening Weekend are available at the WGI gate on Saturday and Sunday only. Gates open at 9:30 a.m., with the first laps starting at 10 a.m.

The Center will be open for extended hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

We'll be showing short racing films for our monthly "Movie Memories" feature and serving coffee and doughnuts throughout both days.

Come visit us.

Road Trip!

The Center is organizing an outing to The Simeone Automotive Museum in Philadelphia on Saturday, July 27.

"Racing Solutions for 1954" is the theme of this "Demonstration Day." The featured cars will be a 1952 Cunningham C4R, a 1955 Mercedes Benz Gullwing, a 1953 C-Type Jaguar and a 1954 Ferrari 375MM. After the demonstration runs, we'll have lots of time to tour this magnificent museum, voted 2011 "Museum of the Year."

Center Historian Bill Green will give a talk en route about the cars we will be viewing.

Our tour bus will leave from Horseheads, NY, at 6:30 a.m. An additional pick-up stop in Binghamton, NY, will be planned if needed.

The price for Sponsorship Team supporters as of June 15 will be $75. For those who aren't Sponsorship Team members, the price will be $110. The prices include admission to the museum.

Full payment is due at the time of making a reservation. The deadline for reservations is June 15.

For more information, contact the Center at (607) 535-9044 or by email at k...@racingarchives.org. Visit the Simeone Automotive Museum website at simeonemuseum.org.

Research Center Volunteers Busy, Happy Helpers

"How much do I have to pay to work here?"

It's a question from visitors we have heard more than once. Race fans, especially those with a passion for the history of the sport, envy our  day-to-day immersion in the books, the photos, the films, the artwork and the everything else spanning decades and decades of racing around the world.

One way to get your fix and do a good deed at the same time: volunteer.

We have a long list of tasks that volunteers can lend a hand with, ranging from helping with mailings to organizing collections to staffing our outreach tables at Watkins Glen International.

Our youngest volunteer is J.T. Coupal of Bloomfield, NY. He's a racer himself - go-karts - and has an eye for stunning cars. J.T. is also a writer, and he wrote about a visit to the Center on his blog, Skeeter Carz. Read it by clicking here.

In Case You Missed It:

~ A friend of the Center shared this link to BBC News In Pictures, which noted the start of the 2013 Formula One season by digging into some photo archives.

Coming Up:

~ Toyota Green Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International, April 19, sponsored in part by the Racing Research Center. Individuals, colleges and universities, car clubs and manufacturers are invited to participate.
