Subject: great weekend coming at
imrrc
Hello Friends!
The Racing Research
Center has an exciting weekend coming up, with the main event being our 2012
Open House on Saturday, April 21, featuring the Elva.
Twelve Elvas will be on display
throughout the day on Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. Come and meet the Elva
owners and learn all about the marque from their perspectives.
At 1 p.m., racing historian János
Wimpffen, author of “Elva: The Cars, The People, The History,” will discuss the
Elva company’s origins in the 1950s in the south of England, its successes and
failures at the track and its influence on better-known marques.
Burdette Martin, Elva racer and
Chicago-area Elva dealer in the 1950s, will share the podium with Wimpffen.
The emphasis on Elva continues the next
day, Sunday, at Watkins Glen International, which will be in the second of its
two-day season opener. The Elvas will be on display near the Media Center, and
Wimpffen will be there, too, set up to sell and sign his book and to answer more
questions.
Michael Argetsinger will also be there
with his book, “Formula One at Watkins Glen: 20 Years of the United States
Grand Prix, 1961-1980.”
WGI will be offering laps around the
track as its opening weekend feature. For $25, drivers will get three laps
around the track. The event is a fund-raiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation.
Two more reasons to come spend the
weekend with us:
~ The Toyota Green Grand Prix, of which
the Center is a great supporter, will be presented at WGI on Friday and
Saturday. The Green Grand Prix is a showcase of motoring technology that aims for a cleaner
environment. For complete details, visit the website www.greengrandprix.com.
There is no admission on either day.
~ The GlenTheater on Franklin Street in Watkins Glen will be showing “Senna” on Friday and
Saturday at 7
p.m. The award-winning
film tells the story of Formula One racer Ayrton Senna.
