I have a few bikes my kids have outgrown and I would like to give them to a place that fixes up bikes and redistributes them to kids who need them.

There's also the Freegan Bike Workshop at the 123 community space in
Bed-Stuy (www.123communityspace.org/). They take donated bikes, plus
parts they dumpster, and run a free all-ages open "come work on your
bike, or build yourself a free one" program. That's great for the many
kids who come by and learn a Maker/DIY ethic from building their own bike.

Recycle-A-Bike is also a great organization, and an excellent choice,
and they have a similar program that's more structured/fewer kids.
However, they also sell bikes to raise money, so they can use a wider
range of bikes. Personally, I'd donate bikes for children too young to
build bikes (say, under 10? 12? I have no idea.) to Recycle-A-Bike, and
bikes for older children to the Freegan Bike Workshop.

I'm willing to ride them around without locks and 'donate' them to the people in my neighborhood. ;)
