Hello,

Does anyone know of a reliable place to get iPad parts? I need a new logic board and lcd screen - my apartment got flooded this morning and my gen 1 iPad is dead. 

Google is my friend - but was looking for recommendations...

I think iFixit is the go-to place for boutique consumer electronics
replacement parts:

I don't see entire screens or logic boards though, and given that
those probably represent the large majority of device cost you might
just need to buy a new one. You might be able to get a used device
from CEX (slightly more reputable than craigslist/ebay, with locations
in NYC):

It would be great to list these components on Octopart, but we find
they are usually too obscure/custom and aren't in the "regular"
electronics distributor networks.

The service is cheaper because they take the time to replace just the part that is defective. For example Apple will replace and entire top case when the keyboard has issues in the unibody Mac Book Pro line. L2 just replaced the keyboard part (57 screws).

I actually was there yesterday because I was able to fix a "burnt out" video card for an old 12" Powermac and needed a new battery. 3 years ago the Apple store quoted me $1300 dollars to have it fixed. A few weeks ago I decided to follow the directions posted at the end of this Steve Jobs tribute and was amazed to have fixed it on my own with no new parts:

I can't guarantee that this approach might work for your iPad, but it was a real confidence booster for me when the thing booted up like new, so now I go to L2 for parts and d.i.y. Just in the nick of time too because ppc software is quickly disappearing.

Although it's a long shot, I would recommend you go get a few lbs of dried, uncooked rice, but the ipad in a paper bag , but that paper bag+ipad into a good plastic bag, and fill it up with the rice, and leave it for a couple weeks. Cheap, and it can't hurt. It sucks that the battery is so difficult to remove, (some)electronics can withstand a good dousing, its the chaotic electrolytic damage of the battery that is the x factor. Even after it's dry i would open it and pop out the battery, before running it from usb power(assuming it will run just from usb power.) I rescued a dead macbook with faucet water, grain alcohol, and a toothbrush.
