Or know of anyone using/creating such technology?

I would like to create custom triangulation rigs possibly with wifi access points/ bluetooth/ xbee?

I've been researching this quite a bit lately, here's my writeup:

Hope it helps!

Resistors,

Does anybody know where to procure those tiny drill bits for drilling into circuit boards in NYC? I did the rounds at Radio Shack, 269 Canal, and JR but no luck.

Any advice is appreciated!

I have gotten them at Radio Shack before.  Try a different Radio Shack(s).  Call around to save your self some time.

Hmmm sounds good thanks for the advice! I went there and asked an employee who had no idea how to look up on the system to see if they had it, ha.

Thanks,

Of course don't ask for bits for circuit boards. Just have the sizes you need and see if you need an collet (I think that is what is called) to adapt it to your drill. They have some insanely thin.

There used to be a hardware store in the same row as J&R, and I've gotten many sizes there.

Victor Machinery in Brooklyn has carbide bits in all sizes.  They are very easy to get to on the L train.

These guys have the tiniest drill bits I have ever seen (I would call first). 1/4mm and less.  call them first tho, it's been a while.

You don't say how small you need the tiny drill bits. "1/4mm"
translates to about #87 at 0.010.

The usual minimum size for steel/cobalt bits is likely to be #80 (.
0135, about 0.4mm). These are available via sources like Amazon, in
sets, for relatively cheap cost. This is pushing the minimum size
you can use without careful drill-press use. Smaller than that, I'd
expect only carbide.

Not hard to find as small as #96 if you need it -- but sourcing
locally isn't going to make as much sense as contacting somebody like
bitguy1.com and having them sent to you. If you look at eBay listing
160644977848, for example, you can get some idea of cost and time.

Be advised that small carbide drills are fragile as hell. My carbide
#80s will break without much delay if given even an accidental flick
of the hand when removing them from their storage block. By the time
you're in the #90s, you really need to be running CNC-grade spindles
(low vibration as well as very low runout) and not just observe
'rectilinearity of entry'

Victor Machinery has some very small bits, they're at 56 Bogart St in
Bushwick (Morgan Av stop on the L train). They're only open
traditional business hours, though.

Is there a NYCR webpage that has all these resources?

I am used to groups that have their own Files section for specialized
information resources like this.

Some organizations (Yahoo Groups for example) also have a 'database'
feature -- which I have not yet used, so I can't comment on how
useful it might be -- which might allow collaborative direct
contribution to a body of knowledge such as "where to find specific
tools". Members would then be able to browse through this, filter
out what they didn't need, and find what matches their particular
priorities.

Alas, Google in their infinite (lack of) wisdom has placed their
'document' Web system as a toolbar function outside of 'groups' and
as far as I can see has combined unrestrained feature-creep-as-
unrestrained-benefit with inability for group members to source
relevant content by other group members without getting a drink from
the Google-engine firehose. Perhaps there is some way to enable
quick links to relevant Google Docs, but I leave that for people with
better Augean-mucking propensities... ;-}

I do concur that something containing the NYCR collective experience
should be put together as a resource and made available to any member
of the group...
