I am looking for a USB push button that is Mac compatible. basically just a one button keyboard. Does anybody know if this exists out there?

Thanks

I haven't seen one, but you could build one using V-USB and this
example, assuming you want it to act like a keyboard:

Less than $10 in parts as far as I can tell, plus the button.

I don't know about any out-of-the-box solutions, but I hacked together a couple similar devices for MAKE:

One is programmable and uses a Teensy USB:
and here's someone else's riff on that same idea:

The other is not programmable and involves hacking up an old USB keyboard:

You could look around deal extreme for something. They usually have cheap usb toys. Just briefly searching I found:

You might be able to find something better to hack if you do some searching.

You could always use an Arduino. It provides the USB communication out of the box, with the simplicity of a virtual serial port on the other end for interfacing with the language of your choice.

I would take a look at this, The example code includes a USB keyboard you can just modify slightly. It's more or less the Teensy++ with out the Proprietary bootloader nonsense

Unlike the Arduino it provides true Native USB HID with out any extra hardware or the use of V-usb (even tho i love V-usb and i am using it. I have just had some random bugs when dealing with apple products and laptops.)

There are devices like the "Green Button"
http://www.solutions.com/jump.jsp?itemID=15113&itemType=PRODUCT that
probably could be adapted in software pretty easily.

my experience with the i-pac stuff is that i could never buy their products. not available when i needed on multiple occasions.

i don't know if anyone suggested this - in the past, I bought a usb numeric keypad, ripped it open, soldered my own contact closure buttons to their little circuit board and used the existing numeric key bindings in my app. you can prob get a keypad for like $10-$20 from staples.

I built an arcade cabinet using the i-pac and have never run into
bouncing. You can also reprogram the switches to map to any key
command. It's also solder free if you want to make changes. This plugs
in via usb and is Mac compatible. I'd say go for it if you want an
easy solution.
