About the House:

At minimum a vegetarian household but preferably vegan.

An alcohol, drug and smoke free environment.

Moving in anytime between May 15th and August 1st.

In Brooklyn, Queens, or Manhattan as long as the commute to school in midtown is not more than 45 minutes.

Price range for rent from about $600-$800 a month.

3-5 bedrooms/residents. I’m open to even more if a lot of people are interested.

About us:

We could have communal dinners twice a month and communal brunch once a month. We could talk about any household issues if we need then and just get to know each other better.

Shared household responsibilities including cleaning and bills, but not a rigid chore wheel/structure, just a general sense of community responsibility.

Pets are awesome but some people are allergic so we would have to work that out depending on who is interested in starting this house. (I prefer dogs over cats, but love cats too).

We’d clean with natural products and not wear shoes in the house.

We’d negotiate how we wanted to share food.

About me:

I am a radical queer sociology phd student and educator, 29 year old white cisgender female. I’m artistically inclined  and aesthetics are important to me but not an artist per se. I’m social justice oriented. I’m a yoga person but still can’t do chaturanga or a hand stand. I’m sex positive, anti-racist, and feminist, trans affirming.

About my things:

I’ve got a TV I’d like to put in a communal area but only have it hooked up to watch DVDs (or VHS if you’re old school!) or Netflix/hulu, not cable.

I’ve got a vitamix I’d like to use to make delicious hummus and raw vegan lasagna for us.

I’m currently couch-less but have some other living room kinds of furniture like end tables and lamps and a nice big rug.

About you:

LGBTQ people and/or people of color who are social justice and artistically inclined. Late late 20s or in your 30s. Employed in someway and financially responsible, but still anti-capitalist. Passionate about something. Aware of your own positioning and privileges.

Interested?

Tell me a little bit about yourself, what you do with your days, what you do with your life, what your interests are, what your aesthetic/style is like, how you understand your activism, and why this house sounds appealing to you. Please let me know if you are just interested in living in a queer, vegan, sober house or if you are yourself queer, vegan, and alcohol and drug free. There is no wrong answer for any of these and I don’t have a particular person with a particular style or job in mind, but I thought these questions are good conversation starters.
