Any opinions on what you thought was the best quality transit bus
(manufacturer and model) in NYC service?

( I always liked the RTS-IIs, I think the Orions are too noisy.)

I know the MTA brings out some 1950s buses for special events for
display, but do they ever offer rides in them?

Aside from the uber-transit-geekiness of the question, isn't how well
the route proceeds for an individual commuter more important?

A hard seat is a hard seat. Of course, being Usenet, this can be
disputed, but you're not going to convince me. Get real.

I prefer subways anyway. Who else vastly prefers subway compared to
bus?

[r! fortune -m "bus driver"]

%% (fortunes)
On his first day as a bus driver, Maxey Eckstein handed in
receipts of $65. The next day his take was $67. The third day's
income was $62. But on the fourth day, Eckstein emptied no less than
$283 on the desk before the cashier.
"Eckstein!" exclaimed the cashier. "This is fantastic. That
route never brought in money like this! What happened?"
"Well, after three days on that cockamamie route, I figured
business would never improve, so I drove over to Fourteenth Street and
worked there. I tell you, that street is a gold mine!"

Ah, the care-free days before GPS installations on buses.

Speaking of installing GPS, anyone know how far along its installation
is proceeding for NYPD cop cars with their fake license plates?

What's this about fake plates on cop cars?

The ones where the numbers sometimes peel off.

Lovely.

What happened to "don't feed the trolls"?

I don't know. Why ask me? Are you implying I said that to you
recently? If so, I invite you to post a link to it. In fact, I just
did a search on Google and I had to go back to 2001 before I found a
post of mine on this group with the word "troll" in it.

If it wasn't you who sent me email with that advice, it was someone
with a similar name. I don't seem to have felt the need to save the
exchange.

I'll tell you right now I never reply via email unless specifically
requested to do so. Everything of mine is posted.

Then consider it just a reminder of the general Usenet principle,
"Don't feed the trolls."

I think I'll respond to whoever I like. But thank you.
