All MNRR service between New Haven State Street and South Norwalk
suspended, according to MTA website.

Amtrak service between Boston and New York Penn Station suspended until
further notice, according to news reports that quoted the railroad.

In the aerial photos they're sort of touching. The news teasers made
it sound like they crashed into each other (see "collision" in your
url).

I'm not sure if you want to call it brushing up against each other or
collision, but it wasn't nice in any event. The NYT article stated that
police were on the scene and treating the area like a crime scene.

Wouldn't they want to do that in any event, considering that this was an
industrial accident?

60 injuries, some severe.

When to label something as any particular kind of event probably
depends on local provisions. The NTSB, whose job it is to investigate
such things, probably doesn't care how it's classified, they'll just
figure out what happened.

They think service _might_ be restored by Monday morning; they're
working on repairing the tracks, which apparently got quite torn up.

When all you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail.
