They've been there at least 5 year. They're down on the platforms too.
Here are some of the things I thought they were for (besides decoration):
fire blanket storage
pipe chase
modular partition anchor points
mirrors to see around corners/different parts of the station
man, was I ever wrong. haha.
I'd like to see the pics though -- maybe you could put them on
a flickr.com account? (It's free.)

As the previously cited website says, they've been there since 1998.
They were installed during the station rehab. Remnants of the past are
framed.

They tend to be rather narrow with a glass window and something behind it,
with mirrors to the sides on the inside and various lettering. Not something
that photographs well even with a flash.
