His choice.
He's not particularly skilled at anything other than inspirational
speaking, he has an unremarkable background, he liked fling under the
radar.
And after all that expensive education, he doesn't go the expected
route, he's more comfortable "organizing" his lessers.
I back to the 'hood *he never came from* and didn't rally improve, but
man, he sure talked well.
That won't work in the global scene. From the ridiculous bows on up, he
is way out of his league, and the world is noticing. It's hard to miss
with all these sloppy, inappropriate bows that embarrass his hosts.
But maybe it'll catch on, and the world will all adopt the common
greeting of deep bow combined with a handshake where one man practically
takes a knee. Somehow, I don't see Putin doing that, but ya never know!
