Description: Our client is a leader in the investment Banking industry. ROLE:
The hire will play a technical lead role for the core Institutional Portal Technology Team within the Sales Technology organization. This individual will design and build complex web-based systems used by clients of Investment Bank.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Portal Team designs and develops web solutions for use both by clients and Investment Bank employees. The Investment Bank Institutional Portal serves as the primary web channel for distributing Investment Bank research, analytics, market data, and portfolio data to Investment Bank institutional clients.
The Portal Team provides technology to other teams within Investment Bank to facilitate the development of features within the Institutional Portal and other websites. The Portal Team builds, distributes and integrates core web technologies like AJAX, web page templates (Velocity, JSP), table frameworks, and real-time data in a way that is highly scalable, fault tolerant and extensible.
The Portal Team is responsible for creating and maintaining features of the Institutional Portal, and building services and tools that keep it running smoothly 24/7. This includes managing inbound market data feeds and services, publishing APIs and document management systems, external data feeds and a search engine. Documents and data are fed into a complex system of caching and matching systems that route content for display on the Institutional Portal, and to numerous internal and external clients via e-mail alerts and outbound feeds.
The technology team is based out of New York, but is also represented in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Bangalore. The Portal is used by clients globally, and has versions and content in Japanese and Chinese.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a lead developer for core Institutional Portal Technology Team, the candidate will work with the global Portal Technology Team, the Portal Marketing Team and other Investment Bank technology teams, and to deliver scalable, extensible and reliable web-based solutions. The candidate must understand the nuances of building and deploying a global, client-facing web application and be responsible for working with the the global Portal Technology Team to quickly address and resolve runtime issues.
Portal infrastructure is written primarily in Java, and uses many web-based technologies including Tomcat, Apache, JavaScript and AJAX. Portal relies heavily on open-source software, and databases include Sybase and DB2 UDB. A successful candidate will be able to lead projects that use these technologies and the frameworks built on top of them, and help set and drive the technological vision of the Portal.
Other responsibilities include:
* Set and follow quality standards for software development
* Identify problems and suggest improvements in existing software
* Design and plan software development projects
* Assist in deploying and testing software into runtime environments
* Suggest improvements to the existing software development process
* Work well with a team of developers
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
* Server side Java development (4+ years required)
* Experience in threading, synchronization
* Experience in software internationalization
* Experience designing and developing large-scale web applications
* Knowledge of Java web technologies: Servlets, Struts, JSP, Taglibs, Velocity
* Experience integrating 3rd party libraries and packages (ie, search engines)
* UNIX/Linux experience required (4+ years)
* Object Oriented Development experience
* In-depth knowledge of build systems (Ant, Maven) and source control (CVS)
* Relational DB experience required, Sybase experience preferred
* Programming in Perl and shell scripts is a plus
* Cursory knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS)
* Strong communication skills
* Motivated and self-starter
