Hell’s angel gets life in fatal car bombing

ALBANY – US and Canadian authorities Monday announced that Richard
Vallee, 49, of St. Jean, Quebec, Canada was sentenced to life in
prison for the car bombing murder of Lee Carter, Jr. on July 28, 1993
in Rouses Point, NY.

The evidence at trial established that Vallee, a member of the Three
Rivers chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, was the head of a
cocaine smuggling and distribution network. Carter, a resident of
Rouses Point, came forward to police to report that he had been
approached to assist in smuggling narcotics into Canada.

Carter volunteered to assist law enforcement, and ultimately, was
introduced to Vallee, the head of the smuggling network. Due to
Carter's efforts, five people were arrested, including Vallee. The
other four pled guilty, two in the U.S., and two in Canada, but Vallee
remained free on bail pending a trial in Canada scheduled for
September of 1993.

Vallee committed the murder by causing a bomb to be placed in Carter's
vehicle. The bomb exploded when Carter unknowingly activated a
triggering mechanism placed in the car. Due to Carter's death, the
prosecution in Canada had to be dismissed.

Vallee was arrested in Canada, but escaped at gunpoint on June 5,
1997, after he had been taken to a local hospital for treatment of an
injury received while in prison. Vallee remained a fugitive for seven
years under the assumed name of a toddler who had died in 1961, Guy
Turner.

Vallee was arrested in Montreal on April 11, 2003 for drunk driving,
but using the assumed identity Guy Turner, he was released. A routine
fingerprint check showed that Turner was Vallee, and the Surete du
Quebec set in motion a massive manhunt, and finally cornered Vallee on
April 17, 2003.

Vallee fought extradition, but was finally returned to the United
States in November, 2006. The jury heard from more than 30 witnesses,
and examined more than two dozen exhibits in reaching its
determination.

Hells Angel gets life in N.Y. car bombing
Sentenced for 1993 murder of trial witness

Adrian Humphreys, National Post
Published: Tuesday, April 15, 2008

A leading member of Quebec's Hells Angels has been sentenced to life
in prison without parole by a New York judge for the car-bombing
murder of a government witness who was about to testify against him.

Richard Vallee, 49, of Saint-Jean, Que., was also ordered to pay
nearly $1-million in restitution to the family of Lee Carter Jr., 31,
of Rouses Point, N.Y., who died in a powerful explosion 15 years ago
when he started his Porsche sports car outside the bowling alley where
he worked.

Mr. Carter had worked undercover as a police informant in a
cross-border cocaine smuggling case and identified Vallee as the drug
ring's boss. He was scheduled to testify against Vallee at a trial in
Canada when he was killed.

His death ended the prosecution against Vallee, who was a member of
the elite Quebec Nomads chapter of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club
during the biker war that left 160 people dead.

He was later arrested for Mr. Carter's murder but had avoided a trial
for years after escaping from custody in Montreal and becoming a
high-profile fugitive. He was finally arrested again in Montreal in
2003 and then fought extradition for three years.

An anonymous jury found him guilty in September and yesterday's
sentencing was held under extraordinary security at the Albany, N.Y.,
courthouse.

"While nothing can bring Lee Carter Jr. back, we hope that sentencing
his murderer to life imprisonment will bring some small measure of
comfort to his family," said Glenn T. Suddaby, U.S. Attorney for the
Northern District of New York.

Terence Kindlon, Vallee's lawyer, said his client took the sentence
well.

"He is always filled with energy and optimism. It's his nature. And
today he was filled with energy and optimism even though he knew full
well that inevitably his sentence was to be life without parole. Hope
springs eternal. It isn't over until it's over," he said.

Vallee maintains he did not kill Mr. Carter and plans to file an
appeal.

The court ordered Vallee to pay $971,000 to Mr. Carter's family, a sum
that includes projected lost income because of his death. U.S.
authorities believe Vallee has access to large sums of hidden money
from his years of criminal activity.

Mr. Kindlon argued against the restitution order and maintains Vallee
has no hidden cash.

"He hasn't got a dime and I'm afraid it will probably be a long time
before anyone can collect on that," Mr. Kindlon said. The court
ordered that half of Vallee's earning under the U.S. prison system's
mandatory work program be garnished until the judgment is settled.

Vallee avoided the death penalty because Canada imposed that as a
condition of his extradition. He has requested he be placed in a
prison close to the Quebec border to allow his children and grandchild
to visit him.

Greg-Too bad the Cdn authorities made this request. I wonder why?
Perhaps some of the infamous HA corruption? A former member of the
Satan's Guard MC Mr.Vallee is also a convicted pimp and has had a cpl
of convictions for possession of hashish. He had previously been
acquited of various charges including conspiracy to commit murder.

Three B.C. Hells Angels associates sentenced for contempt of court
12 hours ago

VANCOUVER — Three associates of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang have
been sentenced for contempt of court for refusing to testify at a
high-profile court case.

The men were scheduled to testify at the trial of full-patch Hells
Angel member David Giles, who faced charges of drug trafficking and
belonging to a criminal organization.

The Crown says their refusal was a show of solidarity for the gang,
not any indication of the men's fear of facing prison time.

The judge hearing the case has told the men their refusal to testify
was "an affront to the law which no society can allow."

The men, whose names are protected by a publication ban, received
terms of six, nine and 15 months behind bars.

Last month, an effort by B.C. Crown prosecutors to have Giles
convicted of being a member of a criminal organization failed when a
judge ruled she didn't have enough evidence to come to that finding.

Although Justice Anne MacKenzie did not dispute that Giles was a Hells
Angels member, she ruled the Crown's case against Giles was weak and
she found him not guilty of a drug offence.

During the trial, the Crown alleged the Vancouver-based East End Hells
Angels had moved to Kelowna and called themselves the K-Town Crew.

The Crown alleged they were planning to establish a new chapter to
take over the lucrative illegal drug trade in the Okanagan.

The judge outlined the extensive effort the Crown made during the
trial, saying evidence included intercepted private communications,
including telephone and audio recordings, physical surveillance, and
expert evidence.

The Crown introduced evidence obtained through searches of the East
End Hells Angels club houses in Vancouver and Kelowna, as well as
Giles' residence, a storage locker, and a hidden compartment in a car.

In total 5 HA underlings have been incarcerated for this. 2 expected
to receive federal time and three getting provincial time. Too bad
this publication ban hasn't been lifted so the public can know who
these criminals are. The gangmember who received 9 months is already
in custody serving time for another offence and this sentence is being
added on to it instead of being concurrent.

Rock Machine biker club comes to Edmonton But the once-deadly gang is
promising peace

By GLENN KAUTH, SUN MEDIA

Edmonton police hope the city’s healthy economy will keep a lid on
gang tensions as the infamous Rock Machine biker club sets up a local
chapter.

“They really do need each other now in order to participate in the
commodity trade,” said Staff Sgt. Kevin Galvin, referring to the
booming market for drugs. “We know of relationships between groups
that fundamentally would not have happened before.”

But a Toronto-based spokesman for the Rock Machine, speaking on
condition of anonymity, is promising the club will shed its violent
criminal past, which in Montreal in the 1990s led to a deadly war with
the Hells Angels.

“Obviously, we’re keeping out of crime. We’re going back to old-style
biking and brotherhood of the ‘50s and ‘60s,” said the source, who was
formerly involved with the Bandidos gang.

The idea is to run the club as a “9 to 5 show,” he added, noting the
group’s Edmonton members are mostly “working stiffs” looking to “have
some fun on the weekend.”

The source said the local chapter has been running for two months. But
while the revived Rock Machine has 72 members across its four Canadian
chapters, he declined to say how many Edmontonians have joined. The
group so far doesn’t have a clubhouse, but plans are in the works to
find one. “In the future, we’re going to get ourselves a clubhouse.
We’re just looking for a decent place to put it,” said the source.

Like former biker Ed Winterhalder, the source said the move to take on
the Rock Machine name came after members of the Bandidos – a club
decimated by the 2006 massacre of eight bikers in Ontario – met
roadblocks to revive their own club. But the source insisted that
Winterhalder, who was once a Bandido but now writes books about biker
gangs, has no contact with the new Rock Machine members. “Mr. Ed
Winterhalder has got nothing to do with us,” he said.

Galvin, the head of the city police gang unit in Edmonton, said he has
so far seen no evidence of a Rock Machine presence here. The Rock
Machine source, however, said that’s a deliberate move in order to
fend off what he calls harassment of bikers by police. “We’re fed up
with the non-ending barrage of traffic stops and tickets,” he said.

In Western Canada, plans are to have Ron Burling – who is serving an
eight-year jail sentence in Edmonton for a 2005 kidnapping in Winnipeg
– head up the two Rock Machine chapters on his release.

But while the source acknowledged the apparent contradiction between
Burling’s notoriety and the club’s promise of a crime-free biker gang,
he insisted Burling is also vowing to clean up his act. “Everybody
deserves a second chance, and we will be giving that brother a second
chance. He’s making a genuine effort at reform.”

The source also said that despite the Rock Machine’s own notoriety,
the move to revive the name doesn’t herald future gang wars. “The name
is only because that’s traditionally what we were. If I could erase
everything that happened with the dead in Quebec, I would.”

Galvin, however, believes that the relative calm in gang relations
will last only as long as the money flows. “Now when the economy
changes, we predict we’ll see a spike in gang violence,” he said.

Former Bandido member pleads guilty to Vaughan strip club shooting

(Greg-Frank Lenti was the President of the Bandidos MC in Canada.)

Regional News
Apr 14, 2008 02:15 PM

By: Joe Fantauzzi, Staff Writer

A former Bandidos Motorcycle Club member has pleaded guilty to
manslaughter and aggravated assault in the 2006 shooting of three men
inside a Vaughan strip club.

Francesco Lenti, 61, clad in a black shirt and black pants, appeared
in a Newmarket courtroom Monday and pleaded guilty to manslaughter in
the shooting death of David
John Buchanan, 32, the Sergeant at Arms for the Hells Angels
Motorcycle Club West Toronto Chapter and the woundings of club member
Dana Carnegie and club prospect Carlo Verrelli at Club Pro, in the
Jane Street and Hwy. 7 area Dec. 2, 2006.

According to the agreed statement of facts read into the court record
Monday by assistant Crown David Moull, at about 10:30 p.m., Dec. 1,
Mr. Lenti arrived to Club Pro, where he was employed as a “cooler”,
meaning he was responsible for keeping drugs out of the building and
acting as a peacekeeper.

About two hours later, Mr. Buchanan, Mr. Carnegie, Mr. Verrelli and
Scott Desroche, who was also a member of the Hells Angels, West
Toronto Chapter, walked into Club Pro and sat at a table.

Mr. Buchanan was celebrating his birthday on the night he was killed,
according to a posting on a Hells Angels website in the hours after
his death.

At about 12:53 a.m., Mr. Lenti went to the bar area to order a coffee
and water, While at the bar, he noticed the four men and recognized
them as Hells Angels, court heard.
Mr. Lenti moved to one end of the bar and was surrounded by the men.

An argument broke out about Mr. Lenti being associated with the
Bandidos and the fact he was trying to establish the club in Ontario,
court heard.

Knowing he was in a dark area of the club, not covered by security
cameras, Mr. Lenti moved to the club's well-lit and camera-covered
lobby.

The four men followed him and an argument broke out in the club's
lobby, court heard.

At one point, Mr. Buchanan, while arguing with Mr. Lenti, was holding
a beer bottle in his hand, at his side. Mr. Lenti appeared to be
trying to diffuse the situation as a crowd gathered, court heard.

Meanwhile, one of the club's bouncers, tried to intervene, but was
told to shut up, pushed away and then punched in the face, court
heard.

Mr. Buchanan then moved toward Mr. Lenti and punched him in the eye,
court heard.

When the punch was thrown, Mr. Verrelli and Mr. Desroche were close to
Mr. Lenti.
Mr. Lenti later told police he feared for his life at that point.

Pulling out a 9-millimetre handgun, he had started carrying after
earlier learning of a plot against his life, Mr. Lenti shot Mr.
Buchanan, Mr. Carnegie and Mr. Verrelli.

Mr. Desroche escaped into a utility closet when Mr. Lenti pulled out
the gun, court heard.

Mr. Buchanan and Mr. Verrelli collapsed to the floor after being shot,
while Mr. Carnegie bolted from the club.

Mr. Buchanan was trying to raise himself off the floor while his right
hand was extended toward Mr. Lenti.

Mr. Lenti shot Mr. Buchanan through his left cheek, ending his life,
court heard.

While on his way to the club's door, Mr. Lenti again shot Mr.
Verrelli, who was on the floor in the fetal position.

Mr. Lenti left the club, taking the gun. The weapon has never been
recovered. Court heard the entire incident in the lobby lasted 40
seconds.

Six seconds passed between the point Mr. Lenti pulled the 9-millimetre
handgun and when the last shot was fired.

Seven 9-millimetre cartridge casings, all fired from the same gun,
were recovered from the scene, court heard.

The Hells Angels were not seen with any guns during the incident,
court heard.

Mr. Verrelli was taken to Sunnybrook hospital for treatment to his
gunshot wounds.

Mr. Carnegie arrived at Humber River Regional hospital at about 2:20
a.m. for treatment to his wounds.

After leaving the closet, Mr. Desroche, left the club briefly, but
returned and turned Mr. Buchanan over, saying he was attempting CPR.

Mr. Lenti surrendered himself the same day.

Mr. Buchanan's funeral, later held in Woodbridge, drew hundreds of
bikers and was observed by police.

Mr. Lenti is scheduled for a sentencing hearing May 12.

30 years as an undercover biker
TheStar.com - GTA - 30 years as an undercover biker

COURTESY RANDOM HOUSE CANADA
Alex Caine, right, with top American Hells Angel Sonny Barger, spent
three decades targeting the Bandidos and Hells Angels motorcycle
clubs, Russian organized crime groups and the Ku Klux Klan. April 09,
2008
Peter Edwards
Staff Reporter

It may be bravado and it may be wishful thinking, but Alex Caine
insists he's not worried about being murdered.

"What's there to be paranoid about?" he asked during a recent visit to
Toronto. "You do your best. ...You try to cover yourself as best you
can."

If his voice sounds a tad weary, it's understandable. For more than
three decades, Caine made his living infiltrating organized crime
groups for police organizations in Canada, including the Greater
Toronto Area, and the United States.

His targets included the Bandidos and Hells Angels motorcycle clubs,
Russian-organized crime groups in Richmond Hill, and the Ku Klux Klan
in Georgia.

The Vietnam War veteran, who is almost 60, has detailed his life in
the shadows in Befriend and Betray, a Random House book that went on
sale yesterday.

He found a sense of brotherhood inside the ranks of the Bandidos gang,
which made him a full patch member in the U.S. and gave him status as
secretary treasurer of a Washington state chapter.

The promotion could easily have been disastrous, he writes, "... each
secretary-treasurer was subjected to a polygraph test, administered by
a member who had been with military intelligence in Vietnam.

"When the time came, the questions mostly had to do with finding out
if anyone was skimming cash, and I could answer those honestly. But we
were also asked whether we'd shown the books to anyone outside the
club. I had, of course. Still, I managed to pass."

Peter "Mongo" Price of the Washington State Bandidos was one of his
biker "brothers," a 350-pound, orange-haired aerospace worker who
didn't particularly like Caine. He disliked him because he dreamed
that Caine was attempting to destroy the Bandidos.

Aside from his bulk, Price was someone to be taken seriously because
of his habit of packing two guns, two knives and a chain on his bulk.
As Caine writes, "... this was a monster of a man with wild orange
hair and beard and enough leather on him to dress several cows."

Caine says he doesn't feel any remorse about putting such men behind
bars.

"I never feel guilty. They're criminals. You're paid to take them
down."

He served an apprenticeship of sorts as a young Marine in Vietnam,
when he was involved in capturing, torturing and assassinating
Communist operatives and sympathizers.

"It's not as if the killing was ever easy, let alone pleasurable," he
writes. "But as time passed, it became less personal, just a job to
get over with."

On the subject of the Bandidos in Canada, he says local police have
been premature in saying the gang is dead here.

Six members and associates are on trial for the April 2006 murder of
eight members and associates near Shedden in southwestern Ontario.

He notes that he worked in an American operation in which 93 men were
charged in nine states, and authorities believed they had closed the
club.

"We thought we'd crippled them, to the point where they were
finished."

"Nobody seemed to understand that these guys are not gone, these
Bandidos."

He notes that the gang is still strong in Manitoba, where they are
backed by the Native Red Posse group, and are also supported by the
Mongols club in the U.S., which announces a Canadian presence on its
website.

The Mongols aren't nearly as well known as the Hells Angels, Bandidos
or Outlaws, but Caine isn't laughing at them, even though they've had
trouble getting started in the GTA.

"They're having their growing pains. You can never sell them short."

While police once took a heavy-handed approach with bikers, they have
now become skilled negotiators. When they catch one, they give him the
choice of two decades in prison or a new identity and money in return
for testimony, he says.

Police cancel National Exhibition Centre biker show
Apr 4 2008 By Gary Marks

POLICE have pulled the plug on a tattoo show at the NEC amid fears
rival biker gangs were gearing up for a bloodbath.

The move follows a clash between the notorious Hell's Angels and arch
rivals The Outlaws at Birmingham airport which saw gangs brandish
weapons in front of horrified holidaymakers in January.

A 50-year-old man was left fighting for his life after being smashed
over the head with a machete in the brawl which left two other men
with stab wounds and sent passers-by fleeing for their lives.

Now West Midlands Police have pulled the plug on the Ink and Iron show
- which features everything from motorbikes to tattoos - due to be
held on April 12 and 13, over concerns of mob warfare.

Officers received a tip-off that the two gangs were planning to use
the event as a bloody showdown following the airport fight.

Police fear the gangs have chosen Solihull as a battleground following
the murder of Hell's Angels member Gerry Tobin who was shot on the
M40, in Warwickshire, last August.

Worried police chiefs met up with NEC staff and the promoters of the
Ink and Iron show to thrash out their concerns before pulling the plug
on the event which traditionally attracts more than 8,000 people from
across the country.

A spokeswoman for the NEC said they "regretted" having to cancel the
show.

"This decision was not taken lightly and was made after listening to
West Midlands Police advice and in consultation with the event
organiser," she said.

"We regret the need to make this decision, however, the NEC Group
believes the safety of our visitors and employees must always come
first."

Solihull police have set up an incident room following the airport
brawl and have so far arrested 26 people for a range of offences
including wounding and violent disorder.

Organisers of the Ink and Iron show have apologised on their website
for the show's cancellation.

"This is due to recently received information from West Midlands
police that the show had been targeted for some sort of disturbance
and that there was a risk of violence taking place at the show," said
a spokesman.

"Based on this information the NEC has decided to cancel the show to
protect the safety of everyone involved." n Four men were arrested in
August 2007 in connection with Mr Tobin's murder in a series of raids
carried out by Warwickshire Police in Coventry and Nuneaton.

The four were all remanded in custody by magistrates.

Gypsy Jokers club founder, three members arrested in Kennewick
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- The president and founder of the Tri-Cities
chapter of the Gypsy Jokers motorcycle club and three members have
been arrested in a raid in which methamphetamine was found,
authorities said.

Percussion explosives were used as a distraction before the club's
compound was stormed about 5 a.m. Wednesday by about 50 members of the
town-county-federal Violent Crimes Task Force and the Yakima and
Benton county special weapons and tactics teams, Benton County
Undersheriff Paul Hart said.

"It is an outlaw motorcycle gang with convicted felons who reside
there," Hart said. "We gear up to meet that threat."

The SWAT teams searched all the buildings in the compound, finding an
undisclosed quantity of meth, some stolen property and a couple of
weapons, he said.

"Because of the large site ... it makes it difficult to secure and
make sure everybody is safe," Hart said. "The Violent Crimes Task
Force ... developed enough information to believe there was stolen
property on this property. They don't have the manpower to effect a
safe search warrant so they came to us to help."

Ronald B. Campbell, 57, founder and president of the Gypsy Jokers
chapter; Andrea G. Reeder, 43; Dylan C. Grose, 52; and William C.
Casteel, 39, were jailed for investigation of possessing meth.

Casteel also was arrested March 27 at the compound on a warrant
accusing him of failing to comply with court orders. The raid on
Wednesday was linked to his arrest, FBI Agent Roberta A. Burroughs
said. She would not give further details, saying the investigation was
continuing.
