Brian and Chuck spent part of the meeting last night playing with
fldigi over FM. This morning I came across in these comments on the
digitalradio list. FM digital DX, anyone? The powerpoint
presentation is quite informative.

Gary, you CAN work VHF DX on FM, by using DominoEx4. If you can
work a station on VHF SSB phone, you can work the SAME station on
VHF FM with DominoEX4! We have confirmed this almost daily over a
200 mile path between Charleston, SC and Charlotte, NC. You just
have to have the same power (usually 100 watts) and the same
horizontally polarized antenna gain as a SSB phone station. Of
course, almost all stations currently on VHF SSB are working
phone, not FM and DominoEx, but if you start a group using FM and
horizontally-polarized yagi's, it can expand to cover many more
miles than is possible using repeaters. Generally, you are
working below limiting, and DominoEx works very well under the
flutter and Doppler shift so often found on VHF and UHF.

For my April PowerPoint presentation to the SouthEastern VHF
Society on working VHF DX on FM, please go to

Mert,
I enjoyed the meeting last evening.
The best part for me was the hands on actually seeing the equipment work.
Hope to see you tonight at Blaine ACS meeting at 7PM.
Stan.
