So at the meeting I talked about a couple of different websites for aprs stuff, here they are:
www.openaprs.net - good site that you can look at different people, (attempt) to send messages to them, and to otherwise see whats going on in the area
www.aprs.fi - another good site that does almost everything that openaprs does, but is a bit better when it comes to finding people by call sign (you don't need the ssid)
Also, I found an awesome bit of software called Xastir. Its linux based but they do have instructions for a windows install. The maps in it suck and I haven't found a way to get the photo ones to scale properly. However its very useful for tracking and sending messages (which actually works!) requires radio and tnc, the program can also be used as an internet gateway for aprs information (hint hint) -
