To the Class of 1998:

If you are just beginning or continuing your job search, we encourage you
to take advantage of these resources:

1. Come in and use our searchable employer database, CAREER SEARCH.
This database allows you to identify employers by industry type, geographic
location, and profile (e.g., number of employees). CAREER SEARCH allows you
to search by broad industry categories including advertising, engineering,
education, entertainment, production, consulting, marketing and sales from
870,000+ organizations.

Once you use CAREER SEARCH and have identified those employers that
you would like to target, your findings can be saved to your IBM-compatible
disk (please bring an IBM-compatible 3.5" high-density disk with you). You
can save names of key employees, company name, address and phone number to
a mail merge or text format of your choice. The names and addresses that
you save can then be merged with your cover letter in either MS Word or
Word Perfect. Within minutes of the merge, these targeted cover letters
can be easily mailed with your resume to those employers in your desired
career field and location.

To use CAREER SEARCH, you may reserve computer time by contacting
Mr. Brian Long, Program Assistant for the Placement Center Career
Information Library at 491-5244. Appointments are available during regular
business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

2. Visit Northwestern's job listing site at <http://www.jobtrak.com>
each week. New job vacancies are listed daily and remain posted for only
two weeks. Viewing the job listings is restricted to the Northwestern
University community.

3. Post your resume with JOBTRAK at <http://www.jobtrak.com/resumes>.
The resume posting and referral service is free to Northwestern students.
It's a great way to supplement your other job search activities.

4. Update your resume on the UCS Web WalkUp Campus Interview System
<http://www.stuaff.nwu.edu/ucs/interviews/walkup.htm>. The UCS staff will
continue to refer your resume during the summer to employers who are
seeking Northwestern graduates.

5. When you accept a job offer, please be sure to do the following:
-deactivate your resume on the UCS Web WalkUp Module;
-deactivate your resume on JOBTRAK;
-notify the Placement Center of your offer at
<http://www.stuaff.nwu.edu/resucs/salary_survey/>;
-unsubscribe from the GETAJOB/PHD-JOBS listservs.

If you would like to meet with a counselor, please call 847.491.3700 to
schedule an appointment.

Good luck!
