I had three swarms today.  1.  The observation hive at Asbury Woods.  2.  One of my hives behind Brown's farm - part of Asbury Woods.  3.  One from a bee tree about 2 miles from my house.  I got two, the one from Brown's Farm got away but there are plenty of big old trees in the area.

This is the earliest I have seen swarms.  I recommend having hives ready for the next bright, sunny, warm day. Charlie S.

They are swarming early this year...
I received a call yesterday from a homeowner in Harborcreek... we
drove out there and collected a pretty sizable swarm that was near
ground level on a pine tree.
I'm not sure who gave them my phone # but thank you...
They are hived and in my apiary... but bad weather is coming in.
I also successfully interrupted a swarm from my own colonies by
pulling the frames that had queen cells on them and splitting that
hive.  Numbers are strong.

Fred, glad you were able to help.  I had a stream of "two sentence",
panicked emails from that homeowner and finally figured out it was a swarm.
So I referred her to you, since you may be closest.  Charlie Schroeck was a
backup, since he likes to find swarms for his beginner beekeeping students.
I would expect a rash of swarms after this cold spell moves through.
Strong colonies will hatch a lot of brood in the next days and crowded
conditions will be set up for swarming.

Thank you Charlie...

That was my last "ready" swarm box, so have to get some more together
to have at the ready...
It's a weird year.

The people were so enthusiastic about the swarm collection process
that they are now wanting to know more about honey bee management, it
was a teaching opportunity.

Have a great day!
