We have just posted 4 new Tech Notes:
06 Communications - TCP/IP and IRDA
08 File Control
a. Files with Records and Fields
09 FileSystem Control
These Tech Notes describe controls which replace the ones we have used
in the past. While the old controls will continue to work, the new ones
have big advantages:
- More features
- Better support
- Run in the same way in both NS Basic/CE and NS Basic/Desktop.
Let us know if you spot any problems or have questions!

Hello George,
you mention 4 new Tech Notes, but you list only 3 (06 ,08, and 09).
Which is No. 4?
Greetings

Thanks for the quick response!

Okay, I think I've sorted my questions out for myself, but I'll
mention something about them here for the benefit of anybody else who
was confused. Many of the new tech notes include the following:
"[the control] is included with NS Basic. The information in the
document is for the most part copied from the official documentation
on NewObject's website."
"This control requires that NewObjectsPack1.dll (and NetStreams.dll)
be installed and registered."
Now, my version of NC Basic/CE didn't include those DLL files, but it
looks like they're free downloads from the website at
http://www.newobjects.com/product.asp?Category=63 . Maybe that should
be added to the notes as well as the links to documentation?

List your web site
in Yahoo! Search.
Included with the latest version of NS Basic is AXPack1.exe It's the
installer that is used for SQLite. The same control also has file system
and TCP/IP features, which are the subject of the new Tech Notes.
The next release of NS Basic will make these controls part of the
standard installer.

Hello George,
first of all, I'd like to thank you for the new tech notes. I think
they cover subjects that almost every program needs sooner or later,
so they're very useful. Thanks also for newobjects for providing the
dlls, they seem fairly straightforward to use and quite powerful.
One interesting thing I recently leared, somewhat OT: SQLite is also
built into the firmware on the Apple iPhone! So it is really a very
popular product, and having a database with such a small footprint
available on a mobile device is very good!
Kind regards
Thomas
SQLite is also part of Android and built into the Symbian OS. It is also
part of Google Gears. Access will also support it on the next generation
devices. There is a lot of momentum to SQLite these days.
