I would like to hear from anyone who has bought a used car at Hillcrest -
specifically do they negotiate on sales prices...

Thanks,
John

they all do negotiate on the price, the price at the beginning is only
an asking price,
do your homework on the net and negotiate

good luck

Thanks. I walked out of the place and that seems to have triggered some
negotiation - lol.

Cheers,
John

Yeah, I've bought two used cars and one new car from there. They'll
negotiate a little.

John, Settle's in Harrietsfield are the kind of VW place a VW addict
goes to. If you are looking for or at a used VW you could do yourself
a favour and call them.

Back when I had my '68 411 Fastback with Fuel Injection and auto
transmission I had all my work done there... but Hillcrest offers a VW
Certified program for used cars, with a 2 yr/40,000 km warranty. Pretty
good thing to have.

Cheers,
John

Be sure to get your VW with ABS: Anyone But Steele.

ABS is over-rated, especially if you can drive anyway. But the module costs
over $1200 to replace if it goes... :)

I just bought a 2000 Passat from there a month ago from Claudia. I'm
satisfied with the treatment I received. The odd thing was that they
apparently don't sell on commission, so even with my leaving and coming
back, wash, rinse, repeat... and telling them about the other cars I could
just as easily buy... They weren't all that willing to haggle. The most they
came down was $800 in price. Granted, their prices for these particular
types of cars were the lowest I could find in Canada, so I didn't have much
leverage to use.

Because Passats can be a bit problem-prone, I had it checked out at Halifax
AutoSport, since the owner well-knows European cars. Harrington's or
Settle's could do the job as well. It seemed fine, so I went ahead and
bought it, even though this particular car didn't come with the VW CPO
warranty. I can do most of the repairs myself. Further to HillCrest's
credit, they went so far as to fix or patch a few cosmetic and convenience
problems that I didn't notice until a week after I brought the car home.

If it's a Vw, look on the vwvortex or Freds TDI with sections on
maintenance etc.I've got an 04 TDI , which has a new generation engine
vs the 03. there are a few main things to know on the diesels and
either site would bring you up on them,,
Having documentation for oil changes etc is a big thing for warranty
also.

Thanks. After I walked out they came back with a better price and I feel
like it's a decent deal. They are going to do some minor scratch repair
and fix a small dent too before I pick it up. All in all I felt like they
gave me a fair deal at the end of the day. The two year warranty is a very
nice provision.

I agree entirely with Anti Lock Braking - my "pun" was Anyone But Steele. I
won't even buy a car that has been serviced by them, much less sold by
them.......

Oh my gosh where to start...bought a vw golf last year from Steele...every
issue I had was dealt with so sloppy. They have no communication between
their people from sales to service to the boss Pike. Their attitude of just
go away has left me very disappointed in buying what I am now stuck
with....but then I called Hillcrest. I don't know about the sales, but the
service meets my expectations and these are normal expectations. I think I
will send them a thank you note tomorrow...they deserve one. This was my
first new car (had used ones), but brand new, paid a lot of money for. It
was such a disappointing experience.

Anyhow .... go Hillcrest.

Well we were very pleased with the treatment at Hillcrest for the used
car. My default position is that all used car places are dishonest and
sleazy etc, but I get the sense these people are mostly interested in
having me come back at some point for another used or maybe a new car. All
in all they were professional and very easy to deal with and communicated
openly.
