Some ducks have arrived at Claytor Lake State Park. Today, there were fifteen bufflehead and four ring-necked - along with hundreds of coots and dozens of pied-billed grebes. There were five loons well out. Best bird of the afternoon was a red-headed woodpecker in the larger trees along the water behind cabin #2. The woods along the trail behind the stables produced golden-crowned kinglets, dozens of robins, yellow-rumped warblers, red-bellied woodpecker, flicker, a pine warbler and the usual small birds of the area.

Stan,
The close-up photo of the red-headed woodpecker is marvelous. It's such a gorgeous bird. Thanks for sharing.
