I think the only thing he can do is maybe span over his laptop monitor
and another one....

laptop as the primary monitor, & the LCD/CRT hooked up to the docking unit
as the 2nd monitor. Yea, its not as pretty as having 2 22" widescreen's on
your CEO's desk, but oh well.
Make sure you have the very latest ibm-ATI video drivers before starting.

like previoudly stated, use the lcd of the laptop as primary and the
monitor set off to the right as a secondary then in the display
properties, "extend" your desktop to the second monitor.
I've been doign it for years with less than optimal video cards.

There are external Y adapter type do-ickies, (LOL) that do not work very
well.
