Dorothy,
I like this proposal. I think that most of those J. developers who
attend the meetings are _intermediate-level_ users or are likely soon to
become such "intermediates."
Please see my comment below.

Yeah, I am interested in hearing more proposals, too.
Sincerely,
Paul Bain

In other news, PostgreSQL looks to me to be getting awful close to ready for the CMS. Also, the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) project is a great boost for Joomla! and if anyone is willing to mentor some students, please reach out Chad.
Bruce, it’s funny you should mention that suPHP issue. I just encountered that on a client’s server hosted at LiquidWeb. I built a site in my devel area, and intended to restore it on his server using Akeebabackup. Man, I encountered problem after problem getting it to restore. For me, Akeeba has worked pretty flawlessly since the first time I used it, so I had to read all his documentation before I found a little footnote about how it will not work without suPHP installed. (Of course, I didn’t send in a support ticket lest I experience Nicholas’ wrath. J ) Fortunately, I was able to get the LW folks to install it in no time. It helped clear up some other permissions related issues that I encountered on his main site that I didn’t realize was related as well.
Also, I like the idea of using Jen’s book as a framework for discussion. Seems like it would be a good topic for users and even us vendors.

Not a single query, Dorothy.

Gang,
Does anyone know of a Joomla utility that can reset the ACL permissions across the board to the Joomla default? I’ve got a site that I’m working on now that’s been upgraded from 1.5 -> 1.7.3 -> 2.5. I did the last update.
Somewhere along way, the ACL permissions got pretty hosed up. To the point where, at the document level, a whole bunch of documents are configured like below, where Public edit access is allowed. Of course, this trickles to registered users down the line. I’ve checked the Global permissions (all default – Not Set), the permissions on the Category and Article levels and I’m stumped (there, they read Inherited – not allowed). The same problem existed in the 1.7.3 version, even with NEW documents. This is was the default.
Though, after I upgraded to 2.5, this issue was resolved with the new documents. However, I’ve still got a ton of existing documents that are impacted, and there’s no manual resolution. Which is why I’m looking for a global reset-to-default utility.
Thanks,
Gene

Ooooh, thanks Don. I suspected I could do this on the SQL side. I believe the 1.5 -> 1.7 upgrade did use JUpgrade. I’ll check this out.

I second Dorothy’s recommendation.
