We have a couple of fun ole workshops happening in March.
Please come, learn a new skill, meet folk and support your local
hackspace.
We have got:

Tuesday 13th March - Soap making workshop (£3 - bring scents if you
have any (not nasty ones))
Thursday 29th March - Learn to solve the Rubiks Cube (£5 including
your own cube)
Tuesday 10th April - Build a Bat Listener (£20 (also learn to solder))

Check out the wiki for workshops through the year:
http://wiki.nottinghack.org.uk/wiki/Workshops_2012

Please spread the word - these are open to anyone and everyone members
and non-members alike.

These are all led by members. It would be really great to get more
members involved - if anyone has a skill they would like to share or a
project to build. Drop me an email ma...@re-innovation.co.uk if you
would like any help with running a workshop or discussing an idea.

Recent ideas are home automation, CNC machining, rubber stamps on the
laser....

Later,

Matt

Yes, thanks for the update Matt! This event will be limited by the
number of cubes we have available to give away on the night (unless
you have your own to bring in which case no problems!). We'll be using
the eventbrite site to cope with the limited places and I'll be
setting that up tomorrow evening (with a follow-up post coming to the
google group to let you know it's open).

Just to let you know, there will be another cubing workshop at Derby
Makers on April 10th and we have 27 cubes to split roughly 50/50
between the two. If one event looks like it will be more popular early
on then I'll shift some of the cube allocation accordingly.

For soap making -

There is a silicone ice cube/baking mould of tiny hearts in the kitchen. Put duct tape on the bottom and they should be perfect for making tiny soaps (since they worked so well for making tiny candles).

In my member's box, there's a bag of dried orange peel that I was going to use at the workshop tonight. If you are brave enough to take the challenge, it is yours to use.

I wish I could be there tonight, but I am knocked dead again with another vicious cold. Because, apparently, that whole immune system thing is for chumps.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that no one would be there.

I didn't arrange the soap making workshop, so I was pretty much just trying to make sure things that I was going to bring along were there.

I'm sorry - I hope someone else shows up.

Sorry everyone, that's my bad.
Sophie who ran the workshop is my housemate.
Did a member hang around at all?
Afraid I'm on a bit of holiday hence could not be there.
This brings up a bigger question- I'm not going to be at all the
workshops but I am trying to run a decent set of diverse workshops for
members and non-members alike.
I think I really need other peoples input into this to help run it and
make it work.
Any volunteers? ......

Matt

If workshops done by external people are to be proposed, they need to
really have a member who will cover the entire time I guess :) (either
the seconder who is a member, or someone else who can).

Would only be practical, given this situation arose. Something to
discuss in the next board meeting to make sure events are covered.
