Hello everybody!

Show and Tell, or a Day of Talks) is fast approaching us, but I still only have 3 people signed up to give a talk and 12 people attending!

Are you interested in giving a talk?  If so, sign up here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHJnaEhpT3Y3RWYxYzFIbWlLSWhJdWc6MQ#gid=0

Do you want to come (it's free!)?  If so, sign up here:

http://www.eventbrite.com/event/4328121528

If there isn't a fair bit more interest, especially in giving a talk, I may need to cancel this event; which will be a shame as I was looking forward to it!

Looks like the link for that was broken, but the text was correct, so copy and past rather than click or just use this one.

I would love to go but can't, sorry.

Hello all

Under no circumstances (other than fire or similar) will this event be cancelled.

The event need not be canceled if there are 3 speakers and 12 participants.

Also we don't need to sow the seeds of doubt. People are less likely to sign up to something they think might be cancelled which this event won't be. Even hinting that an event might be cancelled can damage an event.

I will also sign up to do a talk on mobile Hackspaces if I'm not one of the existing 3 participants? I'll happily do a 2nd talk on the history of Nottinghack if people are interested.

I'll list this on the Nott Digital Community and elsewhere this evening.

Dominic

I am more than happy to do a second talk as well. Most likely on the need to share your projects, and how to go about that.

I think we should also list what talks we do have, even if it is just a few so people have got a taste for at least a little of what is going on. Rather than telling people to wait and see, and waiting for more talkers to come along before we announce, we should list what we have so far. It could be more people will sign up depending on the title of just one talk.

Talks so far are:

Introduction to Model Rocketry
Mitch Altman made me quit my job.
Update and repair of the Emett Clock

I'm happy to say we won't cancel it Dominic!

There was also the chap who does Network Security, his name is Michael or Martin and he was at the board meeting.

I had a mind to do a talk on some biological imaging techniques,
nothing relevant to the hackspace really but interesting. I'll check
I'm still free and sign up.

Cheers,

Roger

Sorry I'm booked on a course that weekend, but I'd be happy to contribute/attend in the future. Ange

Can you give me an idea of the equipment that will be available?

I.e. projector/laptop etc....

They'll be a projector, you can use my Linux laptop if you like?

What else would you like? Could probably arrange most things.

Laptop + projector is fine.

One thing I could really do with is a lift on Saturday morning from Beeston to the space. A few things to take that I think I might struggle with on the bike.

Anyone willing in exchange for beer/wine/food/money?

I will be going from Bramcote, so its not exactly out of my way to pick you up.  Email me your address off-list and I'll see you on Saturday.

Cheers

We have three people who have signed up to do talks, these are:

Introduction to Model Rocketry
Mitch Altman made me quit my job.
Update and repair of the Emett Clock

I'm thinking we will run the talks in this order, starting at 10.  From this thread it seems like other people will be happy to do talks, so we'll see how that goes tomorrow.

I'm getting a lift with Spencer, won't be arriving much before 10. I'd like a little prep time, so can my talk be one of later ones?

Can't see that being an issue.

The google docs link from eventbright doesn't seem to work, could just be me, the one posted here does work. The wiki link from eventbright goes to a blank page.

Hi James,

Due to time constraints I won't be able to give my talk tomorrow, essentially I have not had time to write it this week, and I will be celebrating my sisters birthday tomorrow.

Sorry to have to drop out, I tried to factor this in as much as possible till the last possible moment as I knew you were low on talks.

I'm doing the talk on the Emett clock but am still editing photos and assembling the presentation (as at 11pm) - apologies if I look bleary eyed in the morning!

I'll bring my own laptop but will need use of the projector.

Thanks to everyone that did a talk, even though we just had the three I thought it was highly enjoyable, we should do it again sometime.

Who was it that paid for my fish, chips & beer? I believe I owe you £6.80!

That was me. Call it a fiver. Pop it in my member's box or I'm in the space on Thursday evening if you'll be around.
