Every member will shortly receive an invitation to the Annual General Meeting, which is on 23rd April.

At this year's AGM, myself, David H and Matt L term as trustees comes to an end, so we will be having an election.

If you would like to act as a returning officer for this election, please put your name forward to trus...@nottinghack.org.uk

If you would like to stand for trustee (and are a current Hackspace member), please reply to this thread announcing your intention to stand.

Thanks

James

I think I'll be restanding too. Someone asked what would be involved in being a trustee the other day, this is the answer I gave:

- Being listed as a director at Companies House.

- Occasionally getting an email or text from one of the other trustees asking for approval on expenditure. A majority vote from the board (4) carries it, but big stuff we tend to take to the space meetings to ask everyone's opinion instead (The most notable exception being the mill).

- Being present at most if not all monthly meetings. Again, that's largely to approve expenditure; the meetings wouldn't run very well without the board present.

- People looking to you for answers. When you're in the space, be prepared for someone to ask a question, then someone else to say "I don't know" and send them to you.

I've thought very carefully in the last few months about what it means to me to be a trustee and a director at the Nottingham Hackspace. I've effectively been a director of the space since I was elected in May 2011 shortly after we moved to Roden House. Along with David Hayward, Matt Little and Matt Lloyd I've been helping to organise meetups and activities in one way or another since we started Nottinghack back in about Feb 2010.

I've decided at the AGM to step down from the role of director and trustee. I hope that I will still be able to play an advisory role to the board and that you'll find I am as active as ever in the Hackspace.

I am as committed as ever to Nottingham Hackspace and I may choose to stand for re-election at a later date. At this point I would call all keen membersv old and new who can spare the time to help shape something so important as our Hackspace to be brave and step up. I guarantee that helping to run one of the worlds best Hackerspaces is highly rewarding.

Good luck to all applicants.

Dominic Morrow.

Oops, I thought that was private. Don't know how this email stuff works. You wouldn't believe I work with computers.

23 April or 23 May?? I think I've seen conflicting messages... please post somewhere definitive, perhaps the Hackspace Calendar?

thanks

Oh you said April before. That's what I put in my calendar.

Ava is right. This isn't clear.

I know, in this thread Ian pointed it out on the second message and I corrected in the third. Also I sent a message to all members apologising for the mistake!

Although it's been in the calendar for months, I got confused when writing the emails, sorry!

We are very nearly in May, and only 23 days away from the AGM.

Currently we have 4 trustees standing down (James, David and Matt Lloyd at the end of their current term, and Dominic voluntarily) and 4 people standing:

James Hayward
David Hayward
Matt Lloyd
Gareth Howell

To allow everyone to vote, the election will be open from the 16th until during the AGM on the 23rd.  This means that nominations will need to be in by the 9th to allow the returning officer to prepare the election.

On that note, we still need a returning officer! Do you want to take on this responsibility?

Please post your intention to stand for trustee, or act as returning officer as soon as possible.

Thanks

James

You have only three hours left to nominate yourself to stand in the election!

Also, we still don't have a returning officer, is there anyone out there that would like to do it?

Thanks

Just a reminder that although nominations for trustee are now closed, we still need a returning officer!

This can be any member (excluding anyone standing for election or current trustees), and all you will need to do is run the election from Thursday 16th until the AGM by email, and then coordinate physical votes at the AGM.  I will be happy to run through these tasks in more detail if required.

Please, someone, anyone, put yourself forward!

Thanks

James

I thought a name was agreed at the last meeting? Is it on IRC transcript?

If you have not got a volunteer by the 16th then I suppose I could offer. HOWEVER, I have my viva at 2pm that day (Thursday 23rd) and would much prefer to be concentrating on that over the preceeding week!

I looked at my time, and I don't even know if I'll have time to attend
the AGM. Sorry about not volunteering, you can see why I don't consider
myself board material either at this rate :)

If nobody else can help then I could be returning officer but I can't
make the AGM.
