Hello all

This is not spam :-) (sorry )

Thought that it might be useful for some of you .

I bought a £35 Android tablet to play / experiment with.

Its v good value for money, . Its running Android 4 and is reasonable in performance.

Comes with a battery charger and USB adapter cable to allow things like flash drive to be connected

So if you are looking for a cheap tablet,  then I would recommend this :-)... just don't expect Asus Transformer type performance .. it literally is a fraction of the cost of a high end Tablet PC

See link below of where I got it from

( I have no business links or affiliations of any sort to this,  just doing it for the benefit of fellow humans )

Well, that was also my reason for buying.. but I would highlight some issues I have come across:

1. It does NOT have Bluetooth or GPS (Ok considering the price)
2. Its running Androind 4.0.4 (ICS) and not Jellybean (4.1.1 etc..), which I think is the reason for it not supporting USB OTG for for USB<>UART stuff properly.. I am not sure if 4.1.1 JB etc will solve the problem, but I might give it a try at/after payday by getting a Jellybean tablet
3. It is SLOW, but OK if you are patient and expect it to be so, :)

Otherwise, its really good value for money and I would still recommend these tablets for 'static' type apps like WEB surfing, reading Docs/books and play Angrybirds on it is OK (not bril) but more than OK. :)

if you are nearby ( I am in winnersh) I can show it to you so you can have a try.

That does look good for experimentation. I'm involved in building electronic props and scoring system for combat games and one of the things we're doing is blutooth control of some setup, plus live AJAX mapping system. That price is ideal and I might have to try one.

Also, since it's running ICS standard, it might be possible to build CyanogenMod for it, based on JB.

I'm not local. I live in Northamptonshire but will be at the space tomorrow evening to sort out gatekeeper access etc.

The bluetooth was one of the useful features as I have bluetooth interfacing to Arduino (well 12854P based) projects, on an individual device basis (most notably proximity remote activation/deactivation of an automated sentry gun). However, standard Wi-Fi access to the system will also be possible, with a web (AJAX) based interface across multiple devices.

I'm not so fussed about GPS, but Bluetooth would have been nice, although it could still prove useful.

Are there any which do support the USB OTG you know of? or what is stopping you putting Cyanogen or a custom ROM on it?

Just wondering because a cheap tablet might be somewhat useful to me, although for a project I want to do I want to get a very small one sometime it'd be cool to have something to play with in the mean time, considering the price.

Pretty tempting, heh.

hello Andrew

Well, I have not put a custom OS on it yet as I have not found something straight away.. plus I don't know how to put a different OS/image on this machine. I am willing to try it out.

This DOES support USB OTG, e.g. I have connected flash drives and exchanged files no problem. Even the USB<>UART adapters like the PL2303 is 'sort of ' connected, i.e. it shows as a system deivce like USB 1-1 etc.. but does not mount properly as a device like dev/tty0 etc..

so, I am all in favour of trying out a customer ROM/OS image etc.. just show me how to do it :)

I have not bought one, yet but it seems from feedback on Amazon that Wendy Lou provides excellent support on this if you bought it from NATPC.

Hmm

Good.point.

I only thought of contacting the seller regarding shipping issues etc, not for tech support .... I will try that:)
