Hi Miro et al,

After spending most of yesterday doing a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10
following a failed upgrade :-( I have just got around to reinstalling
Notecase Pro 2.8.8.

The install appears to go OK until I try to install the notecase.key
file. It appears to install correctly but I get an error saying that
the program is running in demo mode and that although the license
keyfile exists in .notecase/notecase.key, it is not readable.

I have more than one copy of the key saved in various locations. All
give me the same error message and so I am pretty sure that it is
correct.

After installing the key, the program shows that it is registered to
me but if I close the program and reopen it it again reverts to the
demo version.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Hi, Robert,

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 x86 on a Virtual Box virtual machine last
night and experienced the same problem. I did some further tests and
have sent Miro a detailed report.

The work-around is to bypass the Install File feature:

1. Close NoteCase Pro

2. Manually copy the notecase.key file to /home/username/.notecase
(notice the leading period in the .notecase directory). (Substitute
your user account name for "username".)

3. Relaunch Notecase Pro.

4. Should be joy.

You may need to set your file manager to display hidden files in order
to see the /.notecase directory.

An alternative to wrestling with the Dolphin file manager's settings
is to temporarily install the Krusader file manager. Its installer
sets the app to show hidden files and folders by default.

However, if I recall correctly, there is an option on the Dolphin View
menu to show hidden files.

Paul,

Thanks for that. It worked a treat! It's curious that it should happen
though.

Coming late to the party.

Thanks Paul for finding a solution. Thanks Bob for possible bug report
that I need to test :-).

Having a fresh x86_62 9.10 running since 29.10. I downloaded and installed nc 2.8.8
for 8.04/x86_64 today and it worked just fine, no need to copy anything ...

cheers,
Sven

It's sounding so far like some sort of clash between the 8.04 i386
build of NC Pro and i386 Ubuntu 9.10. FWIW, I experienced no similar
issue with 32-bit Kubuntu 8.04, Kubuntu 9.04, and Ubuntu 9.04 32-bit.

Paul

My guess is that you did not use "Install License" so that could be
the difference to Bob's experience.

Miro

FWIW, same problematic behavior with the install license action on
64-bit Ubuntu 9.10.

I should have added that the same work-around in my first post in this
thread works for 64-bit Ubuntu 9.10.

The actual problem is an incorrect file permission, you can fix this
(after calling "Install License") as root by giving the read
permission for this file to others.
The problem was fixed few days ago (next release will behave OK).

Great. Glad you found it, Miro.
