Is there a submission process? Should I prepare a presentation for the
first meeting? Or is this just a kick-off to get everyone acquainted
with the group and process?

Hi,

There are no presentations at these events - they are reading groups.

The first one is a kick-off: decide the first paper, meeting times,
get to know everyone, etc.

Start with Paxos? Or is this for more modern papers?

The "crib" list of suggested papers is at:

http://nosqlsummer.org/papers

Tim Anglade (the meta-organizer) had the first meeting and had this to
say about first paper choice: "my personal advice is
to stay away from heavy-yet-sparse (but famous & tempting) papers like
CAP, which require a wealth of prior knowledge to be understood fully.
I'll probably recommend that my own local group start with “the 1995
SQL Reunion” or with “It’s Time for a Complete Rewrite”."

In either case, tomorrow night we shall organize and figure out which
paper we'd like to tackle first. Also on the agenda is probably how
to split the group up, since its hard to have a reading group with 60+
people. Furthermore there are probably people who might like to not
commute to the city every week for a meetup, and they might be able to
find like-minded folks closer to home.

See you tomorrow!

Completely spaced on this week's meeting while I've been engrossed at work.
Will you guys be posting the initial papers?

Thanks!

The first paper meeting was posted online, it will be "The End of An
Architectural Era" which won a vote 7 to 4 last night. The meeting is
taking place next Tuesday at 7pm and will be held every other Tuesday
at 7pm ongoing. I took notes and put them online:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/33561936/A-NoSQL-Summer-June-24th-Meeting-Notes

The paper is fairly short and not too technical, so it shouldn't be a
major stretch to read by next Tuesday.

Are there enough people and interest to start it somewhere in South Bay as well?

If this starts in South Bay - I'm in.
How many people are enough?

Thanks,
Gwen

I would also be interested in South Bay. I probably will not get to
an SF meetup, since I'm way down here in the Monterey Bay area.

So it seems like we are around 5 people. Sounds like a meeting :)

Does anyone has meeting space they can offer? Can we meet in a pub? Maybe one of you is a hacker-dojo member?

I would also be keen to join a meeting in South Bay if that is possible.
Also would prefer either Tuesday or Wednesday.

If Redwood Shores is good for the South Bay group, let me know and I'll
check if my office can host.

Best,
Rajiv
