Hi guys,
I also have my colloquium the day before Bram, i.e. tomorrow. It's not related to the nosql, that's true.
However, may be you have spare time tomorrow and are interested a little bit in concurrency for distributed systems.
In this case,

Concurrent execution of automatically generated plans in Smart
Homes environment
An application area where heterogeneity is a norm, is that of
pervasive systems, where thousands of autonomous heterogeneous
devices live together and
need to interoperate. In particular, domotics is concerned with
technology that pervades the home in order to make it more
pro-active and aware with the final
goal of increasing security and comfort of its inhabitants.
This thesis focuses on Smart Homes, that is, homes that contain
heterogeneous interactive and pro-active devices, that adapt their
behavior to the needs of the
home inhabitant through extensive interoperation and user
interaction. For example, a movie may be automatically paused when
the user leaves the room, and
then launched again when s/he is back; windows are automatically
opened to regulate the air condition or as a reaction to gas leak,
and so on. One of the
greatest challenges in developing middleware for smart homes is that
this kind of systems are in need for the orchestration of the
heterogeneous services within complex environment. Therefore, a
special orchestration engine is needed to be implemented in order to
provide efficient concurrent execution of complex scenarios. For
every scenario from different users a special plan is generated
automatically. These plans should be executed concurrently in the
most efficient way.
The thesis is dedicated to the implementation of the orchestration
engine capable of controlling concurrent execution of automatically
generated plans for complex scenarios within Smart Homes and
discusses the advantages of the chosen approach.
Kind regards,
Elena.
