Hi all,
a new version of OrientDB has been released. OrientDB is a NoSQL Document DBMS with a SQL layer built on top of it. This makes things easier for SQL skilled developers (all of us?).

Direct URL: http://orient.googlecode.com/files/orient-database-0.9.13.zip

The new features of this release are:

* New HTTP RESTful interface to the OrientDB Server
* New OrientDB Server Studio GUI to manage documents, requests and
monitor the active connections. It's 100% web client-side application
built with HTML, CSS and JQuery
* Fixed minor bugs on http-connections

The next release is planned for May, 13rd 2010 and will have:

* Native support of queries from the Object Database interface
(http://code.google.com/p/orient/issues/detail?id=11)
* Add projections (count, sum, average, etc.) to the SQL syntax
(http://code.google.com/p/orient/issues/detail?id=15)
* Add user authentication based on user/profile/role system
(http://code.google.com/p/orient/issues/detail?id=30)

If you'd like to suggest some new feature for the next releases please
open a new Issue as "New feature".

bye,
Luca Garulli

I find the name of your database to be extremely racist.

I hope that's a joke. :)

It looks like the database is named after his company. I can only imagine if someone got after Apache for naming the web server after themselves.

(btw, yes, i'm of asian descent.)

"Orient" is Latin for east. You orient yourself in a new
environment. You attend an orientation at a new university. Yes, I too
hope this is a joke.

Is there a service where the names could be checked for racistness and such, like a poll system where you submit the name of your project and people from all around the world (including the US, of course, which is the biggest market) can mark it whether it’s a racist or curse word in their village?

Btw, would calling man (or woman!) a troll offend Scandinavian people?.. Just to be sure.
