I'm kinda tired now for the weekend.  My knees are achy ..... Hank's knees, too.  I went west to Hank's for our favorite places with Devil's Walking Sticks, Frank Melville and Flax Pond. We didn't more much standing in front of the Stick's.... The birds were moving....fast! We probably missed a few birds and got quick looks at the birds and between us, behavior and field marks, we had a great list. TENNESSEE, CAPE MAY, females and young, PARULA, BLACK AND WHITE, NASHVILLE, MAGGIE, BLACKBURNIAN, a first year which Hank and I never seen before, "YELLOW-STARTS", a female BLACK-THROATED BLUE and a BLACK POLL.  The trouble with Saturday in Setauket was there was a farmer/craft market and a road race for some charity.  Roads were closed and we had to go the long way to Flax Pond.  After lunch at DJ Clam Shack, we decided to go to the North Fork in separate cars. We went Edwards Ave north for the sod fields. We saw a third year BALD EAGLE, several TURKEY VULTURES, RED-TAIL and RAVENS.

Turned on to Sound Ave. was a MIStake!  Who knew.... Garlic Festival.  Cops were directing at Northville Turnpike and Sound...and when apple picking at Harbes....oi.  Hank is not  good in traffic... I plotting an escape.  Church Lane to 25.  It is possibly to make a left onto 25.... Local knowledge....

He dropped his stuff at my house and we went to Jack Levin.  We walked the north trail and stopped at every Stick we saw.  We added PRAIRIE WARBLER to the list and a treat of BTB males.  A few days before when my household chores were done, I went and had two males BTB, Cape May and other warblers.

We decided to go back this morning..... Good call....for Vireos, BLUE-HEADED, RED-EYED, WHITE-EYED and the surprise was a bright PHILADELPHIA!  They have been reported Island-wide.  On the main path heading back to Chapel Ln. we had a furry of activity, warblers, CHICKADEES, CAROLINA WRENS and a surprise....LEAST FLYCATCHER!  I discovered I left my phone in the North Tower and we had to go back. On the way back, we saw a Least again.  I don't know much about their migration strategy but I know they're solitary on the breeding territory.

We did have a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON at the Tower. Not your everyday find. A GREAT BLUE HERON and GREAT EGRETS.

After stopping at Country View for a pie for Hank to take home, we cruised Oregon Road 'cuz we couldn't walk anymore!  Scream knees...Hank saw a HARRIER chasing a murmuration, in fact two murmurations.  I think it was a successful hunt because we lost her/first year in the confusion to our eyes.  I think the birds were aware of their sense of space. On Depot Lane we saw a RED-TAIL on a power pole and a KESTREL actively hunting!  I haven't seen a Kestrel on the North Fork for years and years. To see it hunting was great!

So, I posted on eBird and I make a weekend list had leftovers from Michelangelo, turned on the TV and relaxing from the weekend.  Clean-up tomorrow and laundry and shopping.  I'm glad that Chickadee populations has increase from the smoke years. It was great to hear their calls and see their antics.

Apparently, not only bird things are written on the forum....ads for things.... So....

Listen to WPKN fm 89.5 from Bridgeport CT.  I support the station.... There is something for everybody, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, Folk, Classical, Latino, Space, Rock and Roll, Country, all sort of news programs, democratic, LGBQ news and programs, and many, many more shows.  I'm still exploring. Educate your mind, broaden it, listen to music and soothe your soul.  Listen live on WPKN. org.

Time for pie.

Thanks for your report Jody. I miss fall warblers and haven’t been to Flax Pond in many years. Hope your knees are recovering.
