Hello all,

As you may know we are opening up Maker Space on May 17th (7pm to
11pm) for the Late Shows ( http://www.thelateshows.org.uk/ ). This is
a chance to show off what we do and perhaps get a few more creative
members.

We have a couple of Late Shows people to manage people coming in and
out, but we could do with a some people to talk to visitors and a few
things to show off.

Anyone keen to come along or leaving some things to show off? If we
have enough volunteers we could perhaps do 2 hours on and 2 hours
looking round other venues.

Post MakerSpace Late Show options???  I say we descend upon some other poor soul's Late LATE Show for drinks [and dancing?]!
Here is my only suggestion:

We Are Ernest / [Web] / [Fbook] / [Twit]
"...To coincide with Newcastle's Late Shows Ernest is hosting a late night cocktail, food, music and fire extravaganza!
-Lined up are house DJs Elektrik Boy and Simian Squib, with guest Bert Verso (Triptik) playing eclectic beats and pieces.
-Kick off's at seven, with a festival food vibe, including Spicy avocado burritos, vietnamese style pulled pork buns, and fresh from the Quay fish cooked on our own outdoor BBQ, weather permitting.
-Crazy drink details and live acts to follow- keep a look out for updates and times on fire shows and face painting!..."

Please add to the list!

Sorry, I can't make it either (I thought I'd sent a message, sorry if
this is a repeat). Family event...

Hope it goes well!

Alistair,
I'll be staying in town after work. When will you be opening the space?

Ouch in deed. Sounds to me like you can not do much do should be allowed to say in MakerSpace and tinker in safety until, it is better. ;-)

I will be there quite early. Collecting my car about 4:30, so from around then, minus a little time to grab some food.

Quite irritated with the whole thing, but quite pleased i'm not badly hurt. safety equipment works kids! however, i think the bike frame is quite badly bent, which is intensely annoying.

You can mend all aspects of a bike or replace it if necessary. There is no replacement Ed in the shop! Good job the safety equipment did its job!

Jon.

Hi Ed, I'm glad you are (mainly) OK!

I look forward to hearing the tale of how it happened - was it jumping
through burning lorries again?
Or did someone think you were practising being invisible?

Get well soon!

Well somehow we managed to get 218 people thought the door, and some
people moved on as they just could not fit in. Granted not everyone
was interested in what we were doing, but hearing some of the positive
comments outside when people were leaving a notable number really
enjoyed the visit. For this reason alone I think we should consider
opening up again next year in the new space. Who knows, we could be 2
week away from moving to a larger space then as well.

Anyway, a big thank you to all who helped, and if you have not seen
any of the Later Shows then get out tonight and enjoy yourself
tonight.

Likewise,

Big thank-you to everyone for making our 'corner' of the Late Shows possible (both Makers and Late Show volunteers).  I was gob-smacked to learn of the huge mass of people that managed to sift in and out of our door!  I had to get Alistair to repeat the figure before I believed what I heard correctly in the first place...

Indeed, I was a little saddened to see people (that even got inside) leaving before we'd got round to chatting to them and answering their questions.  We certainly seemed to captivate a large portion of people nonetheless, and a great many once again paraphrased the well-trodden quote of 'wish I knew this existed sooner!'.  I had both a warm and fuzzy feeling all evening when hearing this, plus a slight disheartening 'what-if...?' thought process for what the MakerSpace could have already evolved into, had we already reached such a vast portion of the Newcastle Massive.

Onward and upward :)

Once again, BIG thanks to everyone!

Congrats to those that made it work - well done!

It sounds like a huge success!

I look forward to meeting some of the attendees in the new space, and
being part of it next year.
