Hi Hi Everyone!

Last night in Makerspace these interesting and cool things happened!

I brought in my lockpicks and a big bag of locks. Quite a few people had a go, everyone managed to open at least one! (Top Tip: don't buy locks for a pound) Anyone interested in a bit of locksport? For those interested in lock picking, this guide seems pretty good.

Brian, Cay, Will and Alistair are tinkering with the Makerbot and printed out some gears for Will's Reprap. Glen mentioned the Filabot, a plastic grinding and extruding system to recycle 3d prints and make plastic printing filament. mmm, opensource.

Marcus got talking about Charles Stross's Halting State, and Steve Mann an augmented reality researcher and his assault in paris.

Jon was playing with the Pi, trying to get his rPi to send him an email that tells him the email of his Pi when used headerless in a network.

Cay and Glen have been playing with Autodesk Inventor Fusion, a currently free (in beta) 3d Modelling program.

Some people are going to Electromagnetic Field and/or the Open Source Hardware Camp.

If there's anything i've missed, please add it in.

And if you think this sounds like fun we'll see you next time: August the 15th, at the Makerspace!

All good, apart from it is 2012. :-)

Small correction everyone - my 'headerless' (no keyboard, mouse or monitor, just power and network connected) rPi now emails me details about the IP address it has been assigned by DHCP.  This helps me connect to it on the LAN using SHH, VNC or any other service running on the fab little computer. :)

DOH!

Cool, jon, you looked like you were working really hard on that! that much command line scares me.

Yup it certainly sucked me in at one point - totally in 'commandlineland'.

I think absentees appreciate your Digest of the evening's activities.  Nice to see a summary of what went on; think it helps everyone realise what happens in an Evening Open Session (pretty much anything...) :)

Hello!

I tried to find this mailing list the other week on your website to send you the EMF hackspace discount link, but completely failed.

This link will get you a £5 discount on your EMF ticket, but it has a limited number of tickets attached, so use it quickly!

http://www.emfcamp.org/tickets/token/hackspace

We're currently looking for people to give talks and workshops at EMF, it doesn't have to be SUPER IMPRESSIVE, just fun
or interesting. If you'd like to talk, get in touch with me ASAP.

Thanks,
Jonty

Hi Jonty,

You did post to the list last week so could it be another list you did not find? Anyway, there have been discussions and although I am double booked there will be some of us Northerners in attendance. :-)

Obviously my brain is failing after all this camp planning. Sorry guys.

Anyway, anyone fancying giving a talk or workshop, or collaborating on
one, do let me know!
