WE ARE A Nation in mourning today over the passing of two of My
Generations most enigmatic and colorful figures Thursday, June 26th,
2009 when we lost singer/song writer/entertainer/actor/producer
Michael Jackson, the self proclaimed "King of Pop from
respiratory heart failure at his Neverland Ranch home in CA and one time
Lexington KY resident Farrah Fawcett, actress/author and former
Miss Texas pageant winner. Ms.Fawcett lost lost her courageous
and very publicly open battle with cancer and expired yesterday
afternoon (probably a blessing to end useless suffering).
I'm certain that we're all saddened by their loss and the entertainment
world is far richer for their contributions. It's difficult for OUR generation
(My Clients and I are of the same generation ) to hear of these pop culture
icons that we grew up with pass. It's a morbid reminder of our own
mortality as well as a ritualistic "letting go" of our own youth and innocence.
Earlier this year when teen heart throb Heath Ledgar died of toxic drug
overdose (Accidental. Lethal combination of prescription drugs-todays
most successful fu--ing LEGAL drug dealers) I witnessed the impact of
his death upon the girls that worked here because he was THEIR
generations pop icon and it Was an impact. They took it hard and I really
couldn't relate at the time when it happened in January. I'm sorry now that
I wasn't more empathetic after this weeks events. This morning recalling
the death of Steve McQueen, John Wayne and Elvis reminded me of that
same impact upon my Parents since these were their generations pop icons.
Those were My first three heroes actually but they came of age in
popularity when I was caught up in my own drug/alcohol excesses so it
couldn't really be experienced. 21 sober years later I'm realizing just how
fragile we all are and how "generational" EVERYTHING is. It's ironic
as well as a fearfully sobering thought.
I apologize for the melancholy. Now that I'm alone this morning
and can put away "my character" its starting to seep in. Don't really care
for it at all. I watched "Batman, The Dark Knight" back to back twice just
two days ago and was in complete awe of Heath's performance and even
more so over the dialogs in numerous scenes. Chilling and close to home.
I suppose because so much of the rhetoric could easily have come from
one of us guys. Jeez, I talk a lot of shit and often say things for the effect
but today its really hitting home with me and I am sorry. It really IS their
world after all. The next generations, and My Generation is kicking the
goddamn bucket left & right. I do not feel ready to "move on" after all...
Todays youth are tomorrows leaders and we're influencing them. THAT
has never been lost upon me working here of course and to that end I
have always taken just that stance in attempting to give them tools for life
based upon my experiences so they could be better prepared than I was
for adulthood and maturity. Today I am questioning what message exactly
have I been giving these girls. No such thing as a "do over" unfortunately
and perhaps I've been trying to live a life through them that I never had.
The girls that work here are all pursuing education and alternative careers,
aren't practicing drunks and addicts like I was. Have all come from close
traditional families and not at all like the women I grew up with in this
business who were perpetual "victims" caught in a vicious cycle of
abuse from childhood sexual molestation to rape, brutality, drugs
and pimps. Obviously my youth has strongly effected HOW I do things here
and WHY I've taken such a strong public pro-active stance against all
things that I've perceived to be wrong with The Business, the people
that work in it and How it Should be approached and what to avoid.
The pitfalls of it all are obvious from my perspective and No One is Exempt.
My stances on SAFER sex practices, drug/alcohol abuse, respect
and empowerment for women as equals is well known and quit obvious
when you bring your business here. I molly-coddle and protect our people a bit too much maybe
but My Requirements for service and procedures are all geared towards
Safety for them, you, myself and it directly influences YOUR expectations of everyone else that
you do business with in the future -everywhere else. That is precisely my goal for the last 20+ years.
* Isn't it a fact -that once you've encountered one of the

Sadly, I feel like I'm basically useless for anything but as a historian. That old guy with the funny stories. Yuck!
