So I have been looking into the voiced concerns about Psions being
more powerful than similarly leveled Wizards and I don't think they are
when all factors are brought into debate. Psionic powers don't add dice
based on the Psions level where a Wizards spells do and as a result
Psions start with an advantage at say 5th level where they could cast 7
3rd lvl powers (assuming an 18 in the appropriate attribute) but as
each class levels things become more balanced. A 20th lvl Psion
manifesting a 3rd level power still casts it as a 5d6 effect with the
same save (barring adding a ton of extra points into it) while a 20th
lvl Wizard casting a fireball does so with many more dice. So the 20th
lvl Psion using his 5d6 Energy Missile against the 20 CR dragon will be
wasting his time where the 20th lvl Wizard casting his obscenely
damaging Fireball (and lets assume the dragon saves because he will)
still does half of obscene rather than half of a like 20 points of
damage.

I do agree with Rich that there are still some esoteric advantages to
being a Psion like still casting, no components, silent casting but it
has been my experience (with Erik) that his Kineticist has never been
overbearing or unbalancing to the group and more often than not is, if
anything, short on points frequently.

Oh and Andrew has kicked me out of his game because I went to see my
new nephew rather than play in his game Sunday. So now I have changed
my opinion and agree with Erik that he is a selfish clod with delusions
of pointlessness.

welcome to the boards...

I've read that argument a couple times, Right next to several other
ones debating against it.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to see it in action before I know for
sure... I just remember that when jake was a part psion, he could just
basically choose to win some fights and he would.

and classically I remember that any time someone got to use a spell
point system over a memorization/slot system, they basically doubled
their effectiveness.

I know it's been re-written so I'm willing to see it in action before I
rule it out, but the raw math tends to make it look more powerful.

Yeah, Jake was the only person I have ever actually seen play a psionic
character, at least before Erik, and he was definitely a lot more
effective than he would have been as a normal fighter, at least
offensively. Defensively, as I recall, he had something left to be
desired, but a good offense is generally better than a good defense in
D20. But I can also vouch for the fact that at 8th level, Erik's
psionic character is still often completely worthless in the most
hilarious ways possible after he gets a couple of good attacks off and
runs out of points.

Still, I agree with your decision to basically just see how it works
out. Hopefully adding that one regular-level feat will not be too big
an impediment for anyone wanting to play a psion. And I will not even
touch the soulblade adjustment; that is clearly for Kurt to discuss if
he sees fit.

I wasn't really trying to sell the class one way or the other, I just
happened to be looking through the book at lunch yesterday and mulling
over what I saw there. Clearly Kurt, if anyone, will break the class
regardless because that's what he does...THAT'S ALL HE DOES!!!

So you want character ideas on my journal page then?

That one's still under debate and in search of an errata.
