Northern California FIRST Senior Mentor, Teri Benart,  publishes a regular email PDF newsletter that covers all 4 FIRST programs (JrFLL, FLL, FTC, FRC).   If you would like to receive this newsletter directly and/or have FIRST-related news to report,  email Teri (teri_...@yahoo.com). We have been posting a link to the latest newsletter on the norcalfll.org site and will have the latest newsletter there soon.

1. FLL Championship Rubrics were mailed out more than a week ago.   There are ~10 team rubrics that either were returned or had an incomplete mailing address that we will need to individually resolve over the next few weeks.    We also expect to get award/game results, photos, etc posted soon - possibly starting this weekend.

2. "Coaching Girls in FLL - what works"  Conference signups coming soon on norcalfll.org site for May 4th.    More details will be coming soon as I do have a couple of people to work with to get this arranged.

3.   "1st annual FIRST Garage Sale" for all FIRST programs - JrFLL/FLL/FTC/FRC -  at The Play Space in San Jose on Saturday May 11th morning.   All FIRST teams are invited to sell/barter FIRST-related items (ie robotics equipment - not general household items) that they would like within the FIRST community.   Playing At Learning is also accepting donations of robotics items that we can use to sell and use proceeds to help fund programs.  Details will be on theplayspace.org site soon on how to register for a "spot"   - interest is growing which is exciting but this is the first time that we have attempted something like this and will need some help.

4.  2013 FLL Season Planning on Saturday May 25th :  Do you have input on how to improve the FLL experience in NorCal?  Ideas on improving the "FLL Coaches Coffees"?   Have feedback on improving rookie coach / team experience?  Interested in hosting/organizing a FLL qualifier?  Would like to be part of championship organizing committee?   Then, please plan on attending.    We are expecting to divide the day up into specific  topics/sessions between ~10am to ~3pm.    Details will be on the norcalfll.org site hopefully by this weekend.

5.  Playing At Learning Summer Camps:    Playing At Learning will be offering weekly robotic camps this summer at  "The Play Space" in San Jose.   Details are on www.theplayspace.org site and registration is open.

6.  Upcoming Outreach opportunities - help FIRST grow and practice your public speaking!
6a) We will be at Maker Faire:   We have been accepted for a FLL Exhibit area at the Bay Area Maker Faire on May 18/19.  yeah.   Details will be posted on the norcalfll.org site by this weekend - we will be looking for teams to demonstrate their robot and talk about their project.

6b) Seeking FIRST (FLL/FTC/FRC) teams to exhibit in Watsonville  on May 4th at the "Day in the Sky"   - a city where there are zero FIRST teams!    I can coordinate if we can get at least a couple of teams to be there but I can not be there  - email me if available.  This is an all day outdoor free fair - details about the event are here:  http://www.dayinthesky.com/        I think a couple of people responded last time -  but I have been traveling and seem to have lost your reply, so please reply again.    Let's get some new teams started in/around Watsonville.

7.  FLL Project Symposium on Sunday June 2nd  [see https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!topic/norcalfll-announce/0IpHzsup6uI for original info]    Team exhibit signs up will be live soon.   First priority will be given to teams that have received project-based awards at a tournament.   There is expected to be a nominal entrance fee (~$5) to offset renting equipment.

8.  The Play Space Volunteer Appreciation / Open house and  Playing At Learning Anniversary party will be on Saturday June 8th afternoon - mark your calendars.   Everyone is invited to an informal get together.   We would like a few teams (JrFLL/FLL/FTC/FRC) to come and demonstrate their robot and project, so if interested, let me know..

9.  The FLL 2013 Nature's Fury team registration opens on May 6th at noon EDT  (9am PDT).   Challenge Kickoff is August 27th this year.  Qualifier tournament dates will be November 16,17,23,24

Thanks for reading all of this -
