Jeff Treffinger and Brendan Gallagher began collaborating in the late
80's and in the early 90's formed the Geraniums. They recorded a
studio album, "Little Houses in Space," featuring Iguana's bassist
Rene Coman, Brent Newman (aka Glynn Styler) on drums and produced by
Malcolm Burn. In October of '93 Gallagher and Treffinger, among
others, created the legendary Mermaid Lounge and began playing there,
first as the Jet Set Barbies and then as the newly formulated
Geraniums with drummer Daemon Shea (Tribe Nunzio), Tom Marron (Song
Dogs) on violin and harmonica. At the Mermaid, the Geraniums opened
for touring national acts including Vic Chestnut, Richard Buckner,
Chris Whitley, Lil' Band O' Gold, Jim White, The Gourds and many
others. The Geraniums still play frequently at New Orleans clubs like
the Circle Bar, the Saturn Bar, Tipitinas, DBA, Fairgrinds and Bank
Street Bar.
