The highly secretive Mystick Krewe of Orphans and Misfits (MOMs) have
announced the lineup for their extremely popular Halloween shindig.
The costumes-required annual event is open to the public at the
discretion of the costume police. Not for the faint of heart or
morally upright, the contest features some of the most creative and
daring costumers anywhere in the world. The winner of the costume
contest receives a highly coveted membership to the Mystic Krewe.
Tickets are available at the Howlin’ Wolf and on Ticketweb.
The highlight of the evening is a performance by funk icon Ivan
Neville's Dumpstaphunk. Since their debut, Dumpstaphunk has been
tearing it up on local stages, clubs and festivals across the country.
They are arguably the preminent funk band on the scene based on
Neville’s pedigree (he is the son of Aaron Neville of the Neville
Brothers) and the incredible cohesion of the band, which includes
Neville’s cousin, Ian Neville on guitar, Raymond Weber on drums and
Tony Hall on bass.
At 10:00 PM, the irreverent New Orleans party band, Johnny Sketch and
the Dirty Notes will take the stage. Led by guitarist Marc Paradis
(Johnny Sketch), the group of talented and ambitious musicians aims to
pull out all the stops with their captivating stage show and music
school-honed chops.
The party begins at 9 PM with Derrick Freeman’s Smoker’s World.
Freeman is best known as the drummer for Kermit Ruffins and the BBQ
Swingers. He displayed his vocal chops on that band’s Live at
Vaughan’s release. With Smoker’s World he plays drums and sings. The
rest of the band includes Jonathan Freilich and Marc Stone on guitars,
Scott Jackson on bass, Buddha on percussion, Sean C. and Keng on
vocals.
